ESCRT‐Mimetic Nanodegrader Targets STING for Anti‐Inflammatory Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nanoplatform‐enabled targeted protein degradation strategy is presented to regulate aberrant STING signaling. STING‐ATTEC induces selective autophagic degradation of STING via formation of a STING–ATTEC–LC3 ternary complex, while the cationic FA‐LNP+ system enhances LC3 generation and targeted delivery. Together, this synergistic approach efficiently

Glycine decarboxylase deficiency causes neural tube defects and features of non-ketotic hyperglycinemia in mice. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Glycine decarboxylase (GLDC) acts in the glycine cleavage system to decarboxylate glycine and transfer a one-carbon unit into folate one-carbon metabolism. GLDC mutations cause a rare recessive disease non-ketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH).

Effect Differences of Omega‐3 Fatty Acids From Plant Oil and Fish Oil on Human Health

open access: yesAgriFood: Journal of Agricultural Products for Food, EarlyView.
Omega‐3 fatty acids in plant oil is no less than fish oil on human health. ALA in plant oil takes directly healthy effects without conversion to DHA and EPA. Plant oil can be substitutes for fish oil to support partial ω‐3 fatty acids. For people who cannot afford fish oil, plant oil is also good for public health.

Dietary and other lifestyle correlates of serum folate concentrations in a healthy adult population in Crete, Greece: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesNutrition Journal, 2006
Background Folate has emerged as a key nutrient for optimising health. Impaired folate status has been identified as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, various types of cancers, and neurocognitive disorders.

Global Burden Related to Nitrous Oxide Exposure in Medical and Recreational Settings: A Systematic Review and Individual Patient Data Meta-Analysis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The risk of adverse effects of nitrous oxide (N2O) exposure is insufficiently recognized despite its widespread use. These effects are mainly reported through case reports. We conducted an individual patient data meta-analysis to assess the prevalence of

Toward Predictable Nanomedicine: Current Forecasting Frameworks for Nanoparticle–Biology Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Predictive models successfully screen nanoparticles for toxicity and cellular uptake. Yet, complex biological dynamics and sparse, nonstandardized data limit their accuracy. The field urgently needs integrated artificial intelligence/machine learning, systems biology, and open‐access data protocols to bridge the gap between materials science and safe ...

Vitamin B12 deficiency--a major cause of megaloblastic anaemia in patients attending a tertiary care hospital [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
BACKGROUND: Folate and vitamin B12 deficiencies have been known to cause megaloblastic anaemia. Since the deficiencies of these two vitamins are very common in Pakistani population, it would be imperative to investigate their role in causing ...

Demographic, Physiologic, and Lifestyle Characteristics Observed with Serum Total Folate Differ Among Folate Forms: Cross-Sectional Data from Fasting Samples in the NHANES 2011-2016.

open access: yesJournal of NutriLife, 2019
BACKGROUND Serum folate forms were measured in the US population during recent NHANES to assess folate status. OBJECTIVE We describe post-folic acid-fortification concentrations of serum folate forms in the fasting US population ≥1 y from the NHANES ...

Radioassay of Serum Folate with Use of Pig Plasma Folate Binders

open access: yesActa Haematologica, 1975
Pig plasma has been used as a source of specific folate binders for the development of a rapid radioassay to measure the concentration of folate in serum. The assay uses 3H-pteroylglutamic acid as tracer and N-5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid for the construction of the standard curve. The assay is run in a two-step incubation system of 15 min each at room

B12 Dependence of Cell Uptake of Serum Folate: An Explanation for High Serum Folate and Cell Folate Depletion in B12 Deficiency [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1973
Abstract Bone marrow cells from patients with vitamin B12 deficiency took up much less N5-methyltetrahydrofolate(MeTHF) than did normal bone marrow cells but showed no significant reduction in pterolyglutamate (PGA) uptake. Addition of B12 to the incubation medium enhanced the cell uptake of MeTHF only in B12-deficient patients.
