Folate intake, serum folate, and risk of esophageal cancer: a systematic review and dose–response meta-analysis

European Journal of Cancer Prevention, 2019
The dose–response relationship between folate and the risk of esophageal cancer (EC) is not clear. To further elucidate their relationships, we carried out a dose–response meta-analysis of folate intake, serum folate, and the risk of EC.

Serum folate and chronic fatigue syndrome

Neurology, 1993
We assayed serum folate levels of 60 patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and found that 50% had values below 3.0 micrograms/l. Some patients with CFS are deficient in folic acid.

Serum and erythrocyte folates in combined iron and folate deficiency

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1975
A high incidence of iron and folate deficiency was found in 80 female subjects living in a private institution. Iron therapy in individuals with low serum iron values resulted in a significant increase in hemoglobin levels. An improvement in serum and RBC folate levels was also found following iron therapy but this could not be attributed to treatment ...

Sources of Folate and Serum Folate Levels in Older Adults

Journal of the American Dietetic Association, 2007
This study examined dietary folate intake in 173 older adults. A subsample (n=128) also provided data about folic acid from vitamin/mineral supplements and serum folate. Subjects were community-dwelling men and women 60 years of age and older. Overall, this sample had healthful dietary patterns with adequate dietary folate.

High serum folate is associated with brain atrophy in older diabetic people with vitamin B12 deficiency

The Journal of Nutrition, Health & Aging, 2017
Previous studies have reported the adverse cognitive effects of high folate status in older individuals with vitamin B12 (VB12) deficiency. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate how high serum folate and VB12 deficiency could collaboratively ...

Folate binding in pig serum

Comparative Haematology International, 1991
We assessed 12 healthy pigs for folate status; none was folate deficient. We assayed serum from each for folic acid binding protein (FABP) and found consistently high levels. On Sephadex-gel chromatography, the protein appeared to have a molecular weight of about 50 000 daltons. Its possible significance is discussed.

Relationship between Serum and Cerebrospinal Fluid Folate

Nature, 1972
ALTHOUGH a relationship between vitamin B12 deficiency and neuropsychiatric illness is well established, the effects of folic acid deficiency on the nervous system are less certain. It has been noted that the administration of folic acid to patients with pernicious anaemia could aggravate or precipitate nervous system complications1, and it has been ...

Breast cancer and serum folate binding capacity

European Journal of Cancer (1965), 1980
Abstract Total and unsaturated folate binding capacity (TFBC; UFBC) of serum have been measured in 44 normal volunteers, in 48 patients suffering from breast cancer (B.C.) and in 7 patients with cystic mastopathy (C.M.). The values were correlated with the presence of hormone receptors for estrogen and progesterone on the cancer tissue and also

Serum folate in viral and mycoplasmal infections

Journal of Infection, 1987
The concentration of serum folate in 260 patients with viral and mycoplasmal infections was determined (305 samples). In 60% the serum folate concentrations were found to be below 3 micrograms/l. The incidence of low serum folate varied slightly. According to the infections diagnosed, low values were: for influenza A 50% (50 patients), influenza B 42% (

Serum homocysteine, folate, and vitamin B12 levels in patients with vitiligo and their potential roles as disease activity biomarkers: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

Journal of American Academy of Dermatology, 2019
Background: Hyperhomocysteinemia and folate and vitamin B12 deficiencies have been reported in patients with vitiligo. Investigating the role of these conditions might shed light on the pathogenesis of vitiligo.
