Serum uric acid concentrations in offspring of conjugal diabetic parents

open access: yes, 1984
Serum uric acid concentrations were measured in offspring of conjugal diabetic parents, in diabetic patients, and in matched nondiabetic controls. The mean uric acid level in offspring of conjugal diabetic parents was significantly higher than in the ...

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.

Nonlinearity association between hyperuricemia and all-cause mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease

open access: yesScientific Reports
Controversy surrounds the role of serum uric acid and whether treatment intervention is favorable in retarding the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Uric acid, an important screening tool to detect inborn errors of metabolism: a case series

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2017
Background Uric acid is the metabolic end product of purine metabolism in humans. Altered serum and urine uric acid level (both above and below the reference ranges) is an indispensable marker in detecting rare inborn errors of metabolism.

Hypertension in obesity: A focus on individualized pharmacotherapy and the role of body composition, on behalf of the European Society of Hypertension Working Group on Diabetes and Metabolic Risk Factors and Working Group on Lifestyle, Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy and Adherence

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Hypertension in obesity represents a major global health challenge, closely linked to the global epidemics of obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic dysfunction. Excess adiposity contributes to elevated blood pressure through multiple, interrelated mechanisms, including activation of the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system, sympathetic nervous system ...

Optimized micro‐sized cell sphere‐matrix niche co‐aggregates promote efficient oral and craniomaxillofacial bone regeneration

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
The construct of cell‐niche co‐aggregates (GelMA‐SHED sphere‐DDMPs) promotes cranial and periodontal bone regeneration and ensures angiogenic‐osteogenic coupling by downregulating miR‐34c‐5p to enhance the expression of NOTCH1 and its intracellular domain (NICD).

Association between mixed venous oxygen saturation and serum uric acid levels in patients with heart failure.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Hypoxia leads to increased purine metabolism in tissues, resulting in increased serum uric acid levels, and may also cause impaired uric acid excretion in the kidneys and intestinal tract.

Integrated spherical nucleic acid nanoreactor mobilizes targeted PD‐L1 proteolysis and cuproptosis for robust breast cancer immunotherapy

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
This study provides an integrated spherical nucleic acid nanoreactor (denoted as AMCuD) for targeted PD‐L1 degradation and chemo‐dynamically enhanced cuproptosis to synergically elicit robust immunotherapy against the triple‐negative breast cancer (TNBC) growth, recurrence and metastasis.

Skeletal Muscle Purine Nucleotide Degradation and Atrophy: Cause or Consequence of Increased Uric Acid Production

open access: yes, 2023
Elevated serum uric acid is a risk factor for mortality in diseases and critical illnesses associated with skeletal muscle atrophy. Uric acid is generated by xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) and XOR inhibitors can partially attenuate muscle atrophy. Whether
