Sesquiterpene Lactones from Elephantopus scaber

open access: yesZeitschrift für Naturforschung B, 2005
The ethanolic and acetone extracts of the whole plant of Elephantopus scaber were found to contain ethyl hexadecanoate, ethyl-9,12-octadecadienoate, ethyl-(Z)-9-octadecenoate, ethyl octadecanoate, lupeol, stigmasterol, stigmasterol glucoside, deoxyelephantopin (1) and two new germacranolide sesquiterpene lactones named 17,19-dihydrodeoxyelephantopin (2)

Sesquiterpene lactone! a promising antioxidant, anticancer and moderate antinociceptive agent from Artemisia macrocephala jacquem

open access: yesBMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2017
BackgroundSesquiterpene lactones (STLs) make a diverse and huge group of bio-active constituents that have been isolated from several plant families. However, the greatest numbers are present in Asteraceae family having more than 3000 different reported ...

Terpenes and Terpenoids: How can we use them?

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
The transition from petroleum‐based to renewable bio‐based chemicals has led to increased interest in terpenes and terpenoids. This overview highlights their chemistry, focusing on their reactivity and applications in polymerizations, total syntheses, pharmaceuticals, and bio‐based chemical conversions; promoting sustainable and green chemical ...

Dehydrocostus lactone, a naturally occurring polar auxin transport inhibitor, inhibits epicotyl growth by interacting with auxin in etiolated Pisum sativum seedlings

open access: yesActa Agrobotanica, 2019
We have isolated germacranolide-type sesquiterpene lactones with an α-methylene-γ-lactone moiety, dehydrocostus lactone (DHCL), costunolide, santamarine, and a novel compound denoted artabolide [3-hydroxy-4,6,7(H)-germacra-1(10),11(13)-dien-6,12-olide ...

Natural fumigation as a mechanism for volatile transport between flower organs [PDF]

open access: yesNature Chemical Biology, 2019, 15 (6), pp.583-588
Plants synthesize volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to attract pollinators and beneficial microorganisms, to defend themselves against herbivores and pathogens and for plant-plant communication. Generally, accumulation and emission of VOCs occur from the tissue of their biosynthesis.

Eupalinolide O, a novel sesquiterpene lactone from Eupatorium lindleyanum DC., induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human MDA-MB-468 breast cancer cells.

open access: yesOncology Report, 2016
Sesquiterpene lactones have been confirmed to have potential antitumor activity. Here, we demonstrated that Eupalinolide O (EO), a novel sesquiterpene lactone isolated from Eupatorium lindleyanum DC., showed significant anticancer activity against human ...

An integrative strategy used by the aphid Uroleucon formosanum to counter host sesquiterpene lactone defense: Insights from combined genomic and transcriptomic analysis

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
We report the first high‐quality chromosome‐level genome assembly for the aphid Uroleucon formosanum, a serious pest that infests lettuce in eastern Asia. A combination of comparative genomic analyses and RNA‐seq transcriptome profiling suggests that U. formosanum employs integrative mechanisms to cope with host plant‐derived sesquiterpene lactone (STL)
