Abstract From Hypochoeris glabra two guaianolides esterified with an unusual sesquiterpenic acid were isolated. Proton-catalysed rearrangement of the cyclopropane derivative led to a phenolic acid. Abstract The isolation of guaianolides rupicolin-A, rupicolin-B, their acetates and a new germacranolide 1β,10α-epoxy-3β,9β-diacetoxy-11α,13-dihydrocostunolide, identified by means of PS DQF COSY and PS NOESY, from Achillea crithmifolia is reported. A flavonoid jaceidin was also isolated from the same extract.

Sesquiterpene lactones from Saussurea involucrata

Bioassay-directed separation of the ethyl acetate extract from the aerial parts of Saussurea involucrata (Kar. et Kir. ex Maxim) led to the isolation of three new sesquiterpene lactones sausinlactones A (1), B (2), C (3) and six known ones (4-9). The structures were established by spectroscopic data (UV, IR, HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR).

Alkylation of deoxyguanosine by the sesquiterpene lactone hymenoxon

Hymenoxon, a toxic sesquiterpene lactone found in the ruminant forage plant Hymenoxys odorata, binds deoxyguanosine in a cell-free system, and forms adducted guanine residues in sheep lymphocyte DNA. Mitogen-stimulated DNA synthesis in lymphocytes was inhibited by hymenoxon at concentrations greater than 100 microM.

Frullania spp. (Hepaticae, Jungermanniales) are agents of allergies. Extraction and fractionation of Frullania tamarisci has given, as the only allergenic component isolated, a levorotatory crystalline substance, the structure of which is demonstrated. It is a sesquiterpene lactone.
