Set-based design of mechanical systems with design robustness integrated

open access: yes, 2014
This paper presents a method for parameter design of mechanical products based on a set-based approach. Set-based concurrent engineering emphasises on designing in a multi-stakeholder environment with concurrent involvement of the stakeholders in the ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Level-set methods for structural topology optimization : a review

open access: yes, 2013
This review paper provides an overview of different level-set methods for structural topology optimization. Level-set methods can be categorized with respect to the level-set-function parameterization, the geometry mapping, the physical/mechanical model,

Optimality and duality in set-valued optimization utilizing limit sets

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2018
Abstract This paper deals with optimality conditions and duality theory for vector optimization involving non-convex set-valued maps. Firstly, under the assumption of nearly cone-subconvexlike property for set-valued maps, the necessary and sufficient optimality conditions in terms of limit sets are derived for local weak minimizers of a

Boundary optimization for rough sets [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 2018
Let $n > m\ge 2$ be integers and let $\mathcal{A}=\{A_1,\dots,A_m\}$ be a partition of $[n]=\{1,\dots,n\}$. For $X \subseteq [n]$, its $\mathcal{A}$-boundary region $\mathcal{A}(X)$ is defined to be the union of those blocks $A_i$ of $\mathcal{A}$ for which $A_i\cap X\neq \emptyset$ and $A_i\cap ([n] \setminus X)\neq \emptyset$.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Weak Sharp Minima in Set-Valued Optimization Problems

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2012
We introduce the notion of a weak ψ-sharp minimizer for set-valued optimization problems. We present some sufficient and necessary conditions that a pair point is a weak ψ-sharp minimizer through the outer limit of set-valued map and develop the ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
