The Regulation of Trace Metal Elements in Cancer Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The induction of ferroptosis inhibits tumor growth, enhances anticancer efficacy, and overcomes drug resistance. Recent evidence shows nonferrous metal elements play a role in ferroptosis. This review focuses on how trace metals regulate ferroptosis processes like iron accumulation, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant defense.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 Alpha variant (B.1.1.7), original wild-type severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, and cytomegalovirus co-infection in a young adult with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, case report, and review of the possible cytomegalovirus reactivation mechanisms

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2023
Background Like other viral infections, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 infection could affect different human body systems, including host immune responses. Three years after its pandemic, we learn more about this novel coronavirus.

Extracorporeal Catalytic Hemoperfusion Therapy for Refractory Septic Shock Using Ceria Nanoparticle‐Embedded Porous Microbeads

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces an extracorporeal hemoperfusion system incorporating porous microbeads embedded with autocatalytic ceria nanoparticles (CeNPs) for targeted reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging in septic shock. The blood‐compatible hemoperfusion cartridge demonstrated significant improvements in survival, hemodynamic stability, and organ ...

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Early in 2003, an outbreak of the until then unknown severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) was reported in southeastern People’s Republic of China. The outbreak was thought to have first emerged in the Guangdong province in November 2002. Subsequently, the infections spread to Hong Kong (February 2003) and other countries of Southeast Asia ...

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome and Coronavirus

open access: yesInfectious Disease Clinics of North America, 2010
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is a highly infectious disease with a significant morbidity and mortality. Respiratory failure is the major complication, and patients may progress to acute respiratory distress syndrome. Health care workers are particularly vulnerable to SARS.

Molecular Communication Theoretical Modeling and Analysis of SARS-CoV2 Transmission in Human Respiratory System [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-CoronaVirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) caused the ongoing pandemic. This pandemic devastated the world by killing more than a million people, as of October 2020. It is imperative to understand the transmission dynamics of SARS-CoV2 so that novel and interdisciplinary prevention, diagnostic, and therapeutic techniques could be ...

COVID-Datathon: Biomarker identification for COVID-19 severity based on BALF scRNA-seq data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) emergence began in late 2019 and has since spread rapidly worldwide. The characteristics of respiratory immune response to this emerging virus is not clear. Recently, Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) transcriptome profiling of Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) cells has been done ...
