Evolution of alternative sex-determining mechanisms in teleost fishes [PDF]
We compiled information from the literature on the taxonomic distributions in extant teleost fishes of alternative sex-determination systems: male-heterogametic (XY) gonochorism, female-heterogametic (ZW) gonochorism, hermaphroditism, unisexuality, and ...

Clinical Course and Impact of Breaks in Therapy for Children With Relapsed/Refractory Solid Tumors
ABSTRACT Introduction Pediatric relapsed or refractory (R/R) solid tumors carry a dismal prognosis, and postrelapse patient experiences are not well described. We present postrelapse outcomes, including number of R/R events and subsequent therapy regimens.

Tree of Sex: A database of sexual systems [PDF]
The vast majority of eukaryotic organisms reproduce sexually, yet the nature of the sexual system and the mechanism of sex determination often vary remarkably, even among closely related species. Some species of animals and plants change sex across their

ABSTRACT Background Neuropsychological complications may impair the qualitative prognosis of patients with pediatric brain tumors. However, multifaceted evaluations cannot be conducted in all patients because they are time consuming and burdensome for patients.

Sex Determination: Sex on the Brain? [PDF]
Five newly identified sex-biased transcripts in Drosophila are full of surprises: although they are found in fly heads, and manipulating two of them affects mating behaviors, their genes are expressed sex-specifically in non-neural tissues. The way these genes are regulated suggests new complexities in the sex determination pathway.

Evaluation of a novel assay for detection of the fetal marker RASSF1A: facilitating improved diagnostic reliability of noninvasive prenatal diagnosis [PDF]
BackgroundAnalysis of cell free fetal (cff) DNA in maternal plasma is used routinely for non invasive prenatal diagnosis (NIPD) of fetal sex determination, fetal rhesus D status and some single gene disorders.

ABSTRACT Background Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is a rare soft tissue sarcoma occurring most commonly in adolescence and young adulthood. Methods We present the clinical characteristics, treatments, and outcomes of patients with newly diagnosed ASPS enrolled on the Children's Oncology Group study ARST0332.

Implementing Health‐Related Quality of Life Assessment in Pediatric Oncology: A Feasibility Study
ABSTRACT Background There is growing interest in embedding health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) assessment and patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) within clinical cancer care. This study evaluated the feasibility, acceptability, and usability of implementing an electronic PROM (ePROM) platform to measure HRQoL in children with cancer ...

Plant sex determination and sex chromosomes [PDF]
Sex determination systems in plants have evolved many times from hermaphroditic ancestors (including monoecious plants with separate male and female flowers on the same individual), and sex chromosome systems have arisen several times in flowering plant evolution.
