Sex ratio under conditional sex expression

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1988
We present a model to show that, when sex depends on environment rather than genotype, the sex expressed under relatively unfavorable conditions will be more abundant. This result refers to numbers of males and females in the population. By contrast, no clear prediction can be made about the allocation of resources to the two sexes.

Sex-Biased Gene Expression

Annual Review of Genetics, 2016
Methods of transcriptional profiling have made it possible to compare gene expression between females and males on a genome-wide scale. Such studies have revealed that sex-biased gene expression is abundant in many species, although its extent may vary greatly among tissues or developmental stages.

Sex, Sex Roles, and Emotional Expressiveness

The Journal of Genetic Psychology, 1985
Abstract Differences in emotional expressiveness between males and females have generally been attributed to sex-role socialization, but most studies have not included measures of sex-role orientation. We hypothesized that sex role would be a more salient factor than sex and that androgynous and feminine persons would be more expressive than masculine ...

Flowering and sex expression.

2020
Abstract This chapter provides information on the floral development and flowering, sex determination and their molecular markers in pawpaws (Carica papaya). Floral morphology, environmental factors, plant nutrition, gene regulation and plant growth regulators affecting floral development and sex expression are also discussed.

Sex-Biased Gene Expression in a ZW Sex Determination System

Journal of Molecular Evolution, 2006
Studies of the transcriptome have shown that a substantial fraction of interspecific differences in gene expression is the result of sex-biased gene expression. These results suggest that sex-dependent selection may be an important force in generating differences between species but to date all studies have focused on Drosophila.
