Sexual dimorphism inDryopithecus africanus [PDF]
Among the numerous specimens presently classified withinDryopithecus africanus only one can be identified as a male of this species. Poor sampling is not the reason for the unequal numbers of male and female specimens. Rather, the males have been classified elsewhere, specifically withinDryopithecus nyanzae and "Kenyapithecus africanus." The specimens ...

Abstract Dicynodonts (Anomodontia: Dicynodontia) were one of the main groups of terrestrial tetrapods in Permian and Triassic faunas. In Brazil, the genus Dinodontosaurus is one of the most common tetrapod taxon in the Triassic Santa Maria Supersequence. This genus has a complex taxonomic history and is represented in the Triassic of both Argentina and

Temporal variation in Plio- Pleistocene Antidorcas (Mammalia: Bovidae) horncores: the case from Bolt's Farm and why size matters [PDF]
Morphological differences in samples of fossil (Antidorcas recki) and modern (A. marsupialis) springbok horncores suggest that the ancestral species shows less sexual dimorphism than is observed in the horn dimensions of modern springbok.

A new genus of Prioninae (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) [PDF]
Neoma, a new genus of Cerambycidae (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Prioninae: Macrotomini) is described for Mallodonopsis corrosus Bates, 1879, compared to related genera (Aplagiognathus Thomson, 1861; Archodontes Lameere, 1903; and Mallodonopsis Thomson ...

Broadening the semiaquatic scene: Quantification of long bone microanatomy across pinnipeds
Abstract Investigations of bone microanatomy are commonly used to explore lifestyle strategies in vertebrates. While distinct microanatomical limb bone features have been established for exclusively aquatic and terrestrial lifestyles, identifying clear patterns for the semiaquatic lifestyle remains more challenging.

Statistical shape modeling of the human inner ear through micro‐computed tomography imaging
In this study, 54 cadaveric temporal bone specimens underwent high‐resolution micro‐CT imaging. Images were semi‐automatically segmented and converted to 3D surface mesh models for morphological measurement and analysis. Statistical shape models were created for the inner ear, cochlea, and vestibular system, as well as for sex‐ and side‐based subgroups.

Jumping performance in the highly aquatic frog, Xenopus tropicalis : sex-specific relationships between morphology and performance [PDF]
Frogs are characterized by a morphology that has been suggested to be related to their unique jumping specialization. Yet, the functional demands associated with jumping and swimming may not be that different as suggested by studies with semi-aquatic ...

Ontogeny of murine bony semicircular canal form
Abstract The labyrinthine geometry and functional anatomy of the semicircular canals have intrigued scientists for decades, and there has been considerable interest in understanding how these complex structures grow and develop with evidence emerging from human studies that size maturation occurs exceptionally early by comparison with other systems ...
