Radioimmunoassay of rat leptin: sexual dimorphism reversed from humans [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1998
AbstractAdipose tissue secretes leptin, which interacts with receptors in the hypothalamus. In rodent models of obesity, leptin increases metabolism and decreases food intake, which helps to maintain normal body composition. Accurate and precise methods to quantitate circulating leptin concentrations are needed for physiological studies.

Neuroanatomical diversity in Teleocichla with new volumetric and histological insights into the encephalon of Teleocichla monogramma Kullander 1988

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Teleocichla comprises small cichlids that inhabit the rapid streams of Amazonian rivers; however, there has been limited research on their encephalon morphology. This study examined the neuroanatomy of four species, focusing on volumetric measurements of their encephalon subregions, and providing a histological description of the encephalon of

A change in competitive context reverses sexual selection on male size [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Evolutionary Biology, 2009
AbstractIn studies of sexual selection, larger size is often argued to increase male fitness, and relatively smaller males are explained by genetic and/or environmental variation. We demonstrate that a size–development life‐history trade‐off could underlie the maintenance of a broad, unimodal distribution of size in male redback spiders (Latrodectus ...

Evaluation of the sexual expression in a segregating BC1 papaya population

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2007
In Brazil mainly hermaphrodite plants are exploited for papaya cultivation. Tariations of the elongate (normal) hermaphrodite flowers to carpelloid, pentandric and sterile female forms occur in these plants, influenced by genetic as much as by ...

Genome-wide identification of simple sequence repeats and development of polymorphic SSR markers in swamp eel (Monopterus albus)

open access: yesScience Progress, 2021
Objectives: Swamp eel is one model species for sexual reversion and an aquaculture fish in China. One local strain with deep yellow and big spots of Monopterus albus has been selected for consecutive selective breeding.

Arthroscopic Partial Repair and Arthroscopic Debridement Improve Pain and Functional Outcomes in Older Patients With Massive Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tears: A Systematic Review

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To evaluate the current evidence on patient‐reported outcomes and complications after arthroscopic partial repair and arthroscopic debridement for massive irreparable rotator cuff tears (MIRCTs) in patients aged 65 years or older. Methods A systematic search of MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases was conducted through September 2025

Clock Genes Regulate Ca2+ Signaling and Mitochondrial Bioenergetics to Inhibit Sjögren Disease

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Although Ca2+ signaling and metabolism have been identified as key determinants for the development of Sjögren disease (SjD), the intricate connection between them and salivary gland physiology remains poorly understood. Methods Fluorescence‐based Ca2+ imaging, RNA sequencing, and mitochondrial activity were used to investigate the effects of

Homocitrullinated Peptides Drive Pro‐Inflammatory T Cell Responses in a Humanized Mouse Model of Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Anti‐homocitrullinated protein/peptide antibodies are specific to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and predictive of worse prognosis, suggesting a pathogenic role for autoreactivity to homocitrullinated peptides (HomoCitP). However, T cell responses to HomoCitP remain largely unexplored.
