Image Shadow Removal Using End-to-End Deep Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Image degradation caused by shadows is likely to cause technological issues in image segmentation and target recognition. In view of the existing shadow removal methods, there are problems such as small and trivial shadow processing, the scarcity of end ...

A Self-Linking Invariant of Virtual Knots [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In this paper we introduce a new invariant of virtual knots and links that is non-trivial for infinitely many virtuals, but is trivial on classical knots and links.

SUShe: simple unsupervised shadow removal

open access: yesMultimedia Tools and Applications, 2023
AbstractShadow removal is an important problem in computer vision, since the presence of shadows complicates core computer vision tasks, including image segmentation and object recognition. Most state-of-the-art shadow removal methods are based on complex deep learning architectures, which require training on a large amount of data.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Shadow detection and removal from images using machine learning and morphological operations

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
In this study, the authors present a system for shadow detection and removal from images using machine learning technique. A machine learning algorithm ESRT (enhanced streaming random tree) model is proposed.

An Adaptive Snake Based Shadow Segmentation for Robust Driver Fatigue Detection: A 3D Facial Feature Based Photometric Stereo Perspective

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
Fatigue detection has many applications, one of them is intelligent transportation for accident prevention. It is challenging to detect driver fatigue adopting photometric stereo and 3D fatigue-related facial action unit identification.

Fixed-parameter tractability of multicut parameterized by the size of the cutset [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Given an undirected graph $G$, a collection $\{(s_1,t_1),..., (s_k,t_k)\}$ of pairs of vertices, and an integer $p$, the Edge Multicut problem ask if there is a set $S$ of at most $p$ edges such that the removal of $S$ disconnects every $s_i$ from the ...

Regional Attention For Shadow Removal

open access: yesProceedings of the 32nd ACM International Conference on Multimedia
Shadow, as a natural consequence of light interacting with objects, plays a crucial role in shaping the aesthetics of an image, which however also impairs the content visibility and overall visual quality. Recent shadow removal approaches employ the mechanism of attention, due to its effectiveness, as a key component.

Removing Shadows from Images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Illumination conditions cause problems for many computer vision algorithms. In particular, shadows in an image can cause segmentation, tracking, or recognition algorithms to fail. In this paper we propose a method to process a 3-band colour image to locate, and subsequently remove shadows.
