Minimization of peak stresses with the shape derivative
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering SciencesThis article is concerned with the minimization of peak stresses occurring in linear elasticity. We propose to minimize the maximal von Mises stress of the elastic body. This leads to a non-smooth shape functional. We derive the shape derivative and associate it with the Clarke sub-differential.

Derivation of error sources for experimentally derived heliostat shapes [PDF]
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2017 Data gathered using photogrammetry that represents the surface and structure of a heliostat mirror panel is investigated in detail. A curve-fitting approach that allows the retrieval of four distinct mirror error components, while prioritizing the best fit possible to paraboloidal terms in the curve fitting equation, is presented.
