Bent cable Regression of Normally Distributed Data Applied to the Fifth Covid-19 Wave in Egypt [PDF]

open access: yesMaǧallaẗ Al-Buḥūṯ Al-Mālīyyaẗ wa Al-Tiğāriyyaẗ, 2022
The bent-cable model is used to describe the fifth Covid-19 wave in Egypt The data are normally distributed but rightly skewed The model comprises two linear segments, joined smoothly by a quadratic bend.

Sharp waveguide bends induced by spatial solitons [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Physics Letters, 2006
We experimentally demonstrate the ability of a self-guided laser beam to induce waveguides with sharp bends. The beam is a two-dimensional photorefractive screening-photovoltaic bright spatial soliton generated inside a biased lithium-niobate crystal shaped as a prism. The soliton robustness against total internal reflections is shown to leave place to

Experimental Study of the Effect of W-weir on Reduction of Scour Depth at 90 Degree Sharp Bend

open access: yesمجله آب و خاک, 2017
Introduction: Flow patterns within the river bend is three dimensional. Occurrence of secondary flow due to centrifugal force and formation of helicoidally vortex in river bend usually causes the outer bank of river erodes whilst the sediment are ...

KIc Determination of a 7075 T6 Aluminum Alloy by Critical Distances Theory and LEFM [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2023
The Critical Distances Theory has been used in engineering field as a less expensive method to predict failures. Thus, this research aims to evaluate its methods in other materials, like the aluminum alloy 7075 T6, and notches. Two different notches were

Experimental Study of the Effect of Base-level fall at the Beginning of the Bend on Reduction of Scour around a Rectangular Bridge Pier Located in the 180 Degree Sharp Bend [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Hydraulic Structures, 2017
Base-level fall in river beds occurs due to varying natural or unnatural causes. Base-level fall causes the change in the behavior of flow at the location of drop in base-level.

Effect of Turn Region Treatments on the Pressure Loss Distribution in a Smooth Square Channel with Sharp 180° Bend

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2004
An experimental investigation is carried out to study the effect of several turn treatments like single guide vane (short and long) and multiple guide vanes on the pressure drop distribution in a square cross-sectioned smooth channel with a sharp 180 ...

Freeze-Up Ice Jam Formation in the River Bend, a Case Study on the Inner Mongolia Reach of Yellow River

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
Concern has been expressed regarding the impacts of climate change on river ice and ice jam formation in cold regions. Ice jams are easily initiated in bends and narrow channels and cause disasters.

Study on the effects of failed soil block upon the hydraulic characteristics of sharp bend

open access: yesShui kexue jinzhan, 2022
For the composite riverbank, the continuous erosion of the lower non-cohesive layer results in the failure of upper cohesive layer. The cohesive soil block deposits at bank toe, which can alter the flow structure and the following erosion process in the ...

LES of Particle-Laden Flow in Sharp Pipe Bends with Data-Driven Predictions of Agglomerate Breakage by Wall Impacts

open access: yesFluids, 2021
The breakage of agglomerates due to wall impact within a turbulent two-phase flow is studied based on a recently developed model which relies on two artificial neural networks (ANNs).

High confinement in silicon slot waveguides with sharp bends

open access: yesOptics Express, 2006
Slot waveguides allow for high optical confinement in a planar optical waveguide. Here we show a method for maintaining this high degree of confinement in slot waveguides with sharp bends. This high confinement can be achieved by using an asymmetric slot-based structure, where the mode in the bend remains localized in the slot region.
