Background Estrogen activity plays a critical role in bone homeostasis. The serum levels of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) influence free estrogen levels and activity on target tissues.

SHBG concentration in girls during puberty [PDF]
Using a membrane filter method the role of Sexual Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) during female sexual development was investigated. Details on the method and values in boys have already been reported. Before puberty there is no sex difference in SBHG levels.

Sex Hormone Binding Globulin Modifies Testosterone Action and Metabolism in Prostate Cancer Cells
Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) is the major serum carrier of sex hormones. However, growing evidence suggests that SHBG is internalised and plays a role in regulating intracellular hormone action.

Background: Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) is the main transporter of sex hormones in most vertebrates. Low SHBG levels have been linked to increased risk for diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

While botanical gardens are often perceived merely as recreational spaces for a weekend walk, in the Global South, they are true lifelines for nature and for the people who depend on it. Our research in Ethiopia explored what actually keeps these gardens running long‐term.

SHBG and Insulin Resistance - Nexus revisited
Sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) is a liver-synthesized glycoprotein. Low SHBG levels are associated with insulin resistance (IR). Specific single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the SHBG gene are linked to IR. Therefore, it is of interest to provide a review on the comprehensive overview for SHBG related to IR.

Associations of Sex-Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) with Non-SHBG-Bound Levels of Testosterone and Estradiol in Independently Living Men [PDF]
Results of in vitro experiments indicate that with increasing concentrations of SHBG, testosterone (T) is preferentially bound to SHBG in comparison with estradiol (E2). In these studies, the ratio of non-SHBG-bound E2 (non-SHBG-E2) to non-SHBG-T increased with increasing levels of SHBG. SHBG has consequently been regarded as an estrogen amplifier.

Sex Hormones and the Risk of Nasal Polyps: A Two‐Sample Mendelian Randomization Study
ABSTRACT Objective The pathophysiological roles of sex hormones in airway inflammation have drawn much attention recently. We aimed to explore the causal effect of sex hormones on chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and nasal polyps (NP) via a Mendelian randomization (MR) study.

Abstract Background It is well‐established that spermatogenesis, semen quality, and reproductive hormones are interlinked. It is, however, less well‐described how various specific testicular histopathologies are linked to reproductive hormones and semen quality.

ABSTRACT Background Over time, family structures have grown more complex, diversifying adult relationships. While research has compared marital, cohabiting and living apart together relationships based on quality and health, less is known about their sexual dynamics.
