Generation of coherent magnetic fields in sheared inhomogeneous turbulence: No need for rotation? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Coherent magnetic fields are often believed to be generated by the combination of stretching by differential rotation and turbulent amplification of magnetic field, via the so-called alpha effect. The latter is known to exist in helical turbulence, which

Characterization and performance analysis of a shear thickening fluid damper

open access: yesMeasurement + Control, 2019
Shear thickening fluid is a smart material with rheological properties that can be rapidly varied by excitation changes. To fully explore the advantages of using shear thickening fluid in various devices, a phenomenological model for simulating complex ...

A surface force apparatus for nanorheology under large shear strain

open access: yes, 2007
We describe a surface force apparatus designed to probe the rheology of a nanoconfined medium under large shear amplitudes (up to 500 $\mu$m). The instrument can be operated in closed-loop, controlling either the applied normal load or the thickness of ...

Transients in sheared granular matter

open access: yes, 2004
As dense granular materials are sheared, a shear band and an anisotropic force network form. The approach to steady state behavior depends on the history of the packing and the existing force and contact network.

Effect of shear force on the separation of double stranded DNA

open access: yes, 2011
Using the Langevin Dynamics simulation, we have studied the effects of the shear force on the rupture of short double stranded DNA at different temperatures.

Three-Dimensional Relativistic Magnetohydrodynamic Simulations of Current-Driven Instability with A Sub-Alfvenic Jet: Temporal Properties

open access: yes, 2011
We have investigated the influence of a velocity shear surface on the linear and non-linear development of the CD kink instability of force-free helical magnetic equilibria in 3D.

Optimization the Resistance Spot Welding Parameters of Austenitic Stainless Steel and Aluminum Alloy Using Design of Experiment Method [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2016
This research aims to study the effect of RSW parameters on the sheerforce of the spot weldedfor two materials {AISI 304L and AA 6061-T6}with (0.5 and 0.7 mm) thickness.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.
