Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

Practitioner report: running walls: the performance of the limit in prison [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The limit to freedom, represented by the wall of the prison, is the limit to run to reach the finish-line of the marathon: run the limit! Training prisoners to run a marathon as a practice of the limit.

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Adiabatic shear localization: frontiers and advances [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Adiabatic shear localization is a mode of failure that occurs in dynamic loading. It is characterized by thermal softening occurring over a very narrow region of a material and is usually a precursor to ductile fracture and catastrophic failure ...

Push-Out Analysis on the Shear Performance of a New Type of Bellow-Sleeved Stud

open access: yesBuildings
For continuous steel–concrete composite girder bridges based on the post-combined method, the conventional rectangular group studs contribute to the isolation of the steel girder and the concrete slab before prestressing, leading to the majority of ...

Seismic Performance Study of Fabricated High-strength Reinforced Concrete Shear Wall Horizontal Connection Seam

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2016
Block prefabricated shear body and connected to form two types of nodes: one is the shear vertical connecting node, namely, the lower connecting precast shear walls; the other is the level of shear wall connecting node that is connected with the pre ...

Low Cycle Repetitive Loading of Ti‐6Al‐4V‐Epoxy Composite Lattice Structures for Enhanced Energy Dissipation and Damage Tolerance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Composite Ti–6Al–4V–epoxy lattice structures are additively manufactured and epoxy infiltrated for cyclic loading. At low lattice volume fractions, hybridization produces synergistic gains in stiffness and energy dissipation. At higher volume fractions, synergy diminishes, although composites still exceed metallic lattices in specific energy ...

Non-Linear Seismic Analysis of Masonry Buildings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Non-linear analysis is the most viable tool to get accurate predictions of the actual response of masonry structures under earthquake loading. Analytical methods based on the idealisation of masonry walls with openings as systems of macro-elements allow ...

Assessment of wall shear rate measurements with ultrasound [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
An experimental investigation of steady flow of a red blood cell suspension downstream of a backward-racing step is presented. The velocity and shear rate distribution in this geometry can be regarded as representative for flow in large- and medium-sized

Shear Performance of Mortise-and-Tenon Prestressed Joints in Prefabricated Metro Station Structures

open access: yesChengshi guidao jiaotong yanjiu
[Objective] During the sinking construction process of prefabricated metro stations using the caisson method, the chain cutter equipment enclosing the station main structure imposes significant transverse shear forces on the assembled structural joints ...
