Enhancement of bending formability of brittle sheet metal in multilayer metallic sheets

CIRP Annals, 2010
The formability of multilayer metallic sheets is evaluated by tensile, V-bending, hat bending and hemming tests. A monolithic type-420J2 stainless steel sheet cannot be formed because of poor elongation as small as 1.7%. Marked enhancement of the bending formability was observed in the bending of type-420J2 stainless steel sheets when they are layered ...

Optimization of Sheet Metal Products

2006
Linear flow splitting enables the forming of branched sheet metal products in integral style. To optimize those products design parameters have to be based on market requirements. We show that methods that are also used in Operations Research can, in principle, be applied to solve these optimization problems.

THE SHEET METAL PROCESS

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1943
JUST over a year ago (in the October and November 1942 issues of AIRCRAFT ENGINEERING) we published an Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences paper by Mr. F. R. SHANLEY of the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation on “ Elastic Theory in Sheet‐Forming Problems”. In this issue we follow this by a Society of Automotive Engineers paper by MESSRS.

Blechteilmodellierung (Sheet Metal)

2010

Fastenings for Sheet Metal

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1951
MUCH ingenuity has been devoted of late years to the problem of rapid and secure fastenings for sheet‐metal work, and numbers of devices have been evolved to replace the slower and more cumbersome traditional methods. A particularly interesting American development in this line takes the form of a threaded rivet of the type shown in fig. 1.

SHAPING SHEET METAL BY EXPLOSIVES

2000
Using explosives as a source of energy for shaping sheet metal is possible either for the volume shaping of shaping sheet metal. Present research in the world, among all, is oriented on using explosive energy for machining, and especially for shaping sheet metal by deforming, joining metals, hardening metals etc.

Lamination of metal sheets

Computers in Industry, 1999
This paper describes a manufacturing process to produce injection molding tools by lamination of aluminum alloy sheets. The process involves design of the tool using 3D CAD modeling, slicing of the data into cross sections, laser beam cutting of the sheets into 2D profiles, lamination, bonding, milling and finishing.

Sheet Metal Forming

1971
For the purpose of this chapter, sheet metal forming is briefly defined as the forming of sheet, strip or plate by methods which are not intended to alter the thickness of the metal at any point. The definition eliminates what is usually understood by operations such as hot and cold forming, forging or embossing, etc. These are dealt with elsewhere in ...

Formability of Sheet Metals

2010
The formability is the capability of sheet metal to undergo plastic deformation to a given shape without defects. The defects have to be considered separately for the fundamental sheet metal forming procedures of deep-drawing and stretching. The difference between these types of stamping procedures is based on the mechanics of the forming process.
