Health-related interventions among night shift workers: a critical review of the literature

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health, 2014
OBJECTIVES: Associations between shift work and chronic disease have been observed, but relatively little is known about how to mitigate these adverse health effects.

Time-shift scheduling-fair scheduling of flows in high-speed networks [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, 1998
We present a scheduling protocol, called time-shift scheduling, to forward data packets from multiple input flows to a single output channel. Each input flow is guaranteed a predetermined forwarding rate and an upper bound on packet delay. The protocol is an improvement over existing protocols because it satisfies the properties of low delay, fairness,

Shift Work-Related Psychosocial Problems in 12-hour Shift Schedules of Petrochemical Industries [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Occupational Hygiene, 2011
Shiftwork that affects diverse aspects of human life is arranged in various schedules. The main purpose of this study was to compare psycho-social problems among employees working in different 12-hour shift schedules of Iranian petrochemical industries ...

Making Family Under A Shiftwork Schedule: Air Force Security Guards And Their Wives [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Through 90 in-depth interviews with 44 rotating shiftworkers and their spouses, this study examines how couples adjust their routines in order to interact as a family unit.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

CONTINGENCYDISCRIMINABILITY AND PEAK SHIFT IN CONCURRENT SCHEDULES [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 2006
We investigated the effects of discriminative stimuli on choice in a highly variable environment using a procedure in which multiple two‐key concurrent VI VI components changed every 10 reinforcers and were signaled by differential flashes of red and yellow keylights. Across conditions, five pigeons were exposed to a number of different combinations of

Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox
