A New Phage Cocktail Against Multidrug, ESBL-Producer Isolates of Shigella sonnei and Shigella flexneri with Highly Efficient Bacteriolytic Activity

open access: yesMicrobial Drug Resistance, 2020
The globally increasing incidence of antibiotic resistance in pathogenic microorganisms such as Shigella, a cause of human acute gastrointestinal infections, calls for developing effective alternatives.

Plaque formation by virulent Shigella flexneri [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1985
An in vitro tissue culture plaque assay was developed to investigate the intracellular replication and intercellular spread of virulent shigellae. Shigella plaques were formed in HeLa cell monolayers in the presence of an agarose overlay containing tissue culture medium and gentamicin, which eliminated extracellular bacterial growth.
