On the directional stability of ships

International Shipbuilding Progress, 1980
A nonlinear second order ordinary differential equation in yaw rate is used to study the directional stability of a surface ship when the ship moves with randomly varying forward speed. Randomly varying forward speed may be caused by surge motion in random following (or oblique) waves.
