Kinetic simulation of nonrelativistic perpendicular shocks of young supernova remnants. IV. Electron heating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
High Mach number collisionless shocks are found in planetary systems and supernova remnants (SNRs). Electrons are heated at these shocks to the temperature well above the Rankine-Hugoniot prediction. However processes responsible for electron heating are still not well understood.

Uncertainty Shocks are Aggregate Demand Shocks [PDF]

open access: yesFederal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Working Paper Series, 2012
Abstract Search frictions in the labor market give rise to a new option-value channel through which uncertainty affects aggregate economic activity, and the effects of which are reinforced by the presence of nominal rigidities. With these features, an increase in uncertainty resembles an aggregate demand shock because it increases unemployment and ...

Corrugated Features in Coronal-mass-ejections-driven Shocks: A Discussion on the Predisposition to Particle Acceleration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The study of the acceleration of particles is an essential element of research in the heliospheric science. Here, we discuss the predisposition to the particle acceleration around coronal mass ejections (CMEs)-driven shocks with corrugated wave-like features.

Are Shocks to the Terms of Trade Shocks to Productivity? [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Economic Dynamics, 2008
Abstract International trade is frequently thought of as a production technology in which the inputs are exports and the outputs are imports. Exports are transformed into imports at the rate of the price of exports relative to the price of imports: the reciprocal of the terms of trade.

Evaluation of the system accuracy of frameless stereotactic radiosurgery using a combination of cone beam CT, six degrees of freedom couch, and surface image‐guided systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of the frameless linear accelerator‐based stereotactic radiosurgery (FSRS) system incorporating cone‐beam CT (CBCT), six degrees of freedom (6‐DoF) couch, room laser, and surface image‐guided (SG) systems.

13 Prognostication in super refractory status epilepticus: Preliminary results from an international survey study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Translational Science
OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Super refractory status epilepticus (SRSE) is associated with high mortality, often due to withdrawal of life sustaining therapy (WLST) based on perceived poor neurological prognosis.

Fundamentals of Non-relativistic Collisionless Shock Physics: I. The Shock Problem [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
The problem of collisionless shocks is posed as the problem of understanding how in a completely collisionless streaming high-temperature plasma shocks can develop at all, forming discontinuous transition layers of thickness much less than any collisional mean free path length. The history of shock research is briefly reviewed.

Foreign Shocks

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2015
How and to what extent are small open economies affected by international shocks? I develop and estimate a medium scale DSGE model that addresses both questions. The model incorporates i) international markets for firm-to-firm trade in production inputs, and ii) producer heterogeneity where technology and price setting constraints vary across ...

Shielding resources for four common radiopharmaceuticals utilized for imaging and therapy: Tc‐99m, F‐18, I‐131, and Lu‐177

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction The use of radioactive materials in the United States has been tightly regulated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other entities for many decades. In 2015, however, the Joint Commission began to require hospital‐based nuclear medicine departments to conduct shielding designs and evaluations for radioactive material areas ...
