Targeting carbonic anhydrase IX/XII prevents the anti‐ferroptotic effect of stromal lactic acid in prostate carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In prostate carcinoma, lactic acid, secreted by highly glycolytic cancer‐associated fibroblasts, is imported into tumor cells through the MCT1 transporter and prevents RSL3 and erastin‐induced ferroptosis (A). Targeting of carbonic anhydrase IX/XII, the main extracellular pH regulators, in tumor and stromal cells reduces microenvironmental acidosis and

Patients value their own pain over braking safety when deciding when to return to driving: a discrete choice experiment on lower extremity injuries

open access: yesOTA International, 2022
. Objective:. To quantify patient preferences towards time to return to driving relative to compromised reaction time and potential complication risks. Design:. Cross-sectional discrete choice experiment. Setting:. Academic trauma center.

Global explicit particle-in-cell simulations of the nonstationary bow shock and magnetosphere

open access: yes, 2016
We carry out two-dimensional global particle-in-cell simulations of the interaction between the solar wind and a dipole field to study the formation of the bow shock and magnetosphere.

Flow visualisation of a normal shock impinging over a rounded contour bump in a Mach 1.3 free-stream [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
An experimental study has been conducted to visualise the instantaneous streamwise and spanwise flow patterns of a normal shock wave impinging over a rounded contour bump in a Mach 1.3 free-stream.

Uncertainty Shocks are Aggregate Demand Shocks [PDF]

open access: yesFederal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Working Paper Series, 2012
Abstract Search frictions in the labor market give rise to a new option-value channel through which uncertainty affects aggregate economic activity, and the effects of which are reinforced by the presence of nominal rigidities. With these features, an increase in uncertainty resembles an aggregate demand shock because it increases unemployment and ...

Long non‐coding RNAs as therapeutic targets in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and clinical application

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Long non‐coding RNAs (lncRNAs) occupy an abundant fraction of the eukaryotic transcriptome and an emerging area in cancer research. Regulation by lncRNAs is based on their subcellular localization in HNSCC. This cartoon shows the various functions of lncRNAs in HNSCC discussed in this review.

Cherenkov-like shock waves associated with surpassing the light velocity barrier [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The effects arising from accelerated and decelerated motion of a point charge inside a medium are studied. The motion is manifestly relativistic and may be produced by a constant uniform electric field.

Early revascularization in acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock. SHOCK Investigators. Should We Emergently Revascularize Occluded Coronaries for Cardiogenic Shock.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 1999
BACKGROUND The leading cause of death in patients hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction is cardiogenic shock. We conducted a randomized trial to evaluate early revascularization in patients with cardiogenic shock. METHODS Patients with shock due

The impact of frailty syndrome on skeletal muscle histology: preventive effects of exercise

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Frailty syndrome exacerbates skeletal muscle degeneration via increased ECM deposition and myofiber loss. This study, using a murine model, demonstrates that endurance exercise attenuates these histopathological alterations, preserving muscle integrity. Findings support exercise as a viable strategy to counteract frailty‐induced musculoskeletal decline
