Structural Color Polymer‐Based Colorimetric Sensor for Detecting Mechanical Stress in Lithium Batteries Separator

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A lithium battery separator displaying a structural color allows the visualization of mechanical phenomena in charging and discharging with color changes. The separator consists of silica nanoparticles and an acrylic polymer, enabling the simultaneous observation of the color changes, bubbles, and crystals.

A single shooting method with approximate Fréchet derivative for computing geodesics on the Stiefel manifold [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This paper shows how to use the shooting method, a classical numerical algorithm for solving boundary value problems, to compute the Riemannian distance on the Stiefel manifold $ \mathrm{St}(n,p) $, the set of $ n \times p $ matrices with orthonormal columns.

Fully Passive Electrochemical Oxygen Sensor Enabled With Organic Electrochemical Transistor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A wireless oxygen sensor that operates with low power without batteries, using organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) powered by near‐field communication (NFC) is presented. The sensor combines an oxygen‐permeable membrane and a gel electrolyte to detect oxygen in air and complex liquids, making way for sustainable sensor technologies.

Unraveling the Effects of Improved Cooling and Bias Force in the Actuation of a Shape‐Memory Soft Multimaterial Gripper

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study examines a soft gripper with a NiTiCu6 Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) wire embedded in a graphene nanoparticle (GNP)‐functionalized PDMS matrix. Comparing GNP‐enhanced and plain elastomer prototypes, results show that GNPs improve cooling rates, accelerating release by 40%, but increase energy consumption in low‐current activations.

Toward Direct Laser Writing of Dual‐Layer Metasurfaces with the Plasmonic Phase‐Change Material In3SbTe2

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A simple optical programming technique is developed for fabricating plasmonic nanoantennas in a dual‐layer metasurface by crystallizing the plasmonic phase‐change material In3SbTe2 from the top and through the substrate with a subsequent reamorphization step.
