Non-rigid Face Tracking Using Short Track-Life Features [PDF]
We define a “generic” non-rigid face tracker as any system that exhibits robustness to changes in illumination, expression and viewpoint during the tracking of facial land-marks in a video sequence. A popular approach to the problem is to detect/track an ensemble of local features over time whilst enforcing they conform to a global non-rigid shape ...

Is an obscured AGN at the centre of the disk galaxy IC 2497 responsible for Hanny's Voorwerp? [PDF]
We present the results of VLBI and MERLIN observations of the massive disk galaxy IC 2497. Optical observations of IC 2497 revealed the existence of a giant emission nebula "Hanny's Voorwerp" in the proximity of the galaxy.

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Nuclear emulsion measurements of the astronauts' radiation exposures on Skylab missions 2, 3, and 4 [PDF]
On the Skylab missions, Ilford G.5 and K.2 emulsions were flown as part of passive dosimeter packs carried by the astronauts on their wrists. Due to the long mission times, latent image fading and track crowing imposed limitations on a quantitative track

Vapor phase deposition of perovskite photovoltaics: short track to commercialization?
While perovskite-based photovoltaics is progressing toward commercialization, it remains an open question which fabrication technology – solution-based, vapor-based, or combinations – will pave the way to faster economic breakthrough.

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.
