Osmolality of Elemental and Semi-Elemental Formulas Supplemented with Nonprotein Energy Supplements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Elemental and semi-elemental formulas are used to feed infants with short bowel syndrome, who may not be able to tolerate feeds of more than 310 mOsm kg(-1).

Neural Circuits between Nodose Ganglion and Pulmonary Neuroendocrine Cells Regulate Lung Inflammatory Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TRPA1+αCGRP+ sensory neurons in the nodose ganglion detect external insults such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and interact directly with pulmonary neuroendocrine cells (PNECs), promoting their activation and proliferation. This neural‐epithelial interaction amplifies lung inflammation.

Emerging trends in 'smart probiotics' : functional consideration for the development of novel health and industrial applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The link between gut microbiota and human health is well-recognized and described. This ultimate impact on the host has contributed to explain the mutual dependence between humans and their gut bacteria.

Gut Microbiota‐Derived Anandamide Mediates the Therapeutic Effects of Urolithin A on Alcohol‐Induced Cognitive and Social Dysfunction via CB1R‐DRD2‐RAP1 Signaling Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that Urolithin A (UA) counteracts alcohol‐induced cognitive and social dysfunction (AICSD) via a gut microbiome‐dependent mechanism. UA‐enriched Bacteroids sartorii and Parabacteroids distasonis elevate anandamide (AEA), which activates the CB1R‐DRD2‐Rap1 signaling cascade to drive synaptic repair and reduce neuroinflammation ...

A positive SeHCAT test results in fewer subsequent investigations in patients with chronic diarrhoea. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Chronic diarrhoea is a common condition, resulting from a number of different disorders. Bile acid diarrhoea, occurring in about a third of these patients, is often undiagnosed.

Alterations in fecal short-chain fatty acids in patients with irritable bowel syndrome

open access: yesMedicine, 2019
Background: Recent studies indicate that gut microbiota disorders potentially contribute to the pathogenesis of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which can be partly reflected by fecal short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) generated from gut microbiota. Previous

Microenvironment Self‐Adaptive Nanoarmor to Address Adhesion‐ and Colonization‐Related Obstacles in Impaired Intestine Promote Bacteriotherapy Against Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A microenvironment self‐adaptive nanoarmor is developed to effectively address the adhesion‐ and colonization‐related challenges posed by multiple physiological and pathological characteristics in the intestine. L. plantarum@MPN@CS showed significant therapeutic potential in treating Parkinson's disease (PD), a model for extraintestinal disorders, as ...
