Initiation and propagation of short fatigue cracks in a weld metal

open access: yes, 1989
Fatigue tests were performed using a purpose designed triangular shaped specimen to investigate the initiation and propagation of short fatigue cracks in a weld metal.

Short cracks observations on surfaces of specimens made of three materials, subjected to synchronous and asynchronous multiaxial loadings [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2019
In this paper analysis of short cracks observed on surfaces of specimens subjected to axial, torsional, synchronous in-phase and out-of-phase as well as a number of asynchronous loadings was performed.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Orientation preference and fractal character of short fatigue cracks in a weld metal

open access: yes, 1991
Short fatigue crack behaviour in a weld metal has been further investigated. The Schmid factor and the fractal dimension of short cracks on iso-stress specimens subjected to reversed bending have been determined and then applied to account for the ...

Study of the Influences of Transient Crack Propagation in a Pinion on Time-Varying Mesh Stiffness

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2016
Cracks in a cracked gear may further propagate by a tiny length in a very short time for several reasons, such as material fatigue and load fluctuations. In this paper, this dynamic process is defined as transient propagation of cracks.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Initiation Behavior of Microscopic Short Cracks in Weld Toe of Structural Steel Q345B

open access: yesMetals, 2022
Aiming at the base metal (BM) zone, heat affected zone (HAZ) and fusion zone (FZ) of the weld, the tip plastic zone and initiation behavior of microscopic short cracks (MSCs) in the toe of cross-welded joints are studied. Based on the theory of crack tip

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
