Record‐Breaking Marine Heatwaves Across Global Coral Reefs in 2024
Abstract The record‐breaking annual mean global sea surface temperature in 2024 fueled extensive marine heatwaves (MHWs) across global coral reef zones, yet their spatiotemporal characteristics have not been comprehensively quantified. Here, we show that during the 2024 warm‐season, MHW total days and cumulative intensity exceeded the historical mean ...

A robust pseudo-inverse spectral filter applied to the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment (ERBE) scanning channels [PDF]
Computer simulations of a least squares estimator operating on the ERBE scanning channels are discussed. The estimator is designed to minimize the errors produced by nonideal spectral response to spectrally varying and uncertain radiant input.

Lipid drug carriers to which ultra‐small gold nanoparticles were added enabled more efficient radiotherapy of cultured pancreatic cancer tumors. These nanoparticles boosted radiation‐induced damage to tumors by generating more reactive molecules, though higher gold levels are needed for strong benefits.

Anomalous high pressure over northeastern Siberia in August, concurrent with frequent heat waves, is typically followed by colder autumn sea surface temperatures in the western North Pacific. The ocean cooling is modulated by a low‐pressure system over the western North Pacific, which reduces insolation through increased cloud cover and enhances ...

Surface radiation budget for climate applications [PDF]
The Surface Radiation Budget (SRB) consists of the upwelling and downwelling radiation fluxes at the surface, separately determined for the broadband shortwave (SW) (0 to 5 micron) and longwave (LW) (greater than 5 microns) spectral regions plus certain ...

The Effects of Irradiation on Hot Jovian Atmospheres: Heat Redistribution and Energy Dissipation
Hot Jupiters, due to the proximity to their parent stars, are subjected to a strong irradiating flux which governs their radiative and dynamical properties.

ABSTRACT Accurate evaluation of maize performance across diverse environments is essential for improving yield stability and cultivar adaptation under a changing climate. However, conventional breeding approaches often struggle to address multi‐trait trade‐offs and complex genotype‐by‐environment (G × E) interactions while explicitly incorporating ...

We examine energy balance and evapotranspiration dynamics in a shallow peatland as an analogue for projected climate change impacts in deeper peatlands. Across nine growing seasons, we document similar total evapotranspiration between dry and wet years, leading to net moisture deficit in some dry years.
