Nocturnal neighbors: exploring residents' perceptions of urban wildlife related to animal traits identified by camera traps and literature

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Wildlife in urban areas is often a source of conflict, yet relatively few efforts have been directed toward fostering coexistence in these human‐dominated landscapes. While previous research has focused on socio‐demographic factors influencing perceptions of wildlife, the role of specific animal traits in shaping acceptance remains underexplored.

Experimental chronic hepatitis B infection of neonatal tree shrews (Tupaia belangeri chinensis): A model to study molecular causes for susceptibility and disease progression to chronic hepatitis in humans

open access: yesVirology Journal, 2012
Background Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection continues to be an escalating global health problem. Feasible and effective animal models for HBV infection are the prerequisite for developing novel therapies for this disease.

Results of a 30-years-long investigation of small mammals in Crimea. Part 1. Introduction, fauna composition, ranges [PDF]

open access: yesПраці Теріологічної школи, 2015
The present paper deals with the final results of a 30 years-long research of the small mammal’s fauna in the Crimean peninsula, including data on history of investigations within the region as well as on the species’ geographical ranges (in form of maps

Chinese Pangolin Changes Local Vertebrate Assemblages and Contributes to Their Interspecific Interactions by Burrowing and Revisitation

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
In this study, we systematically analyzed the utilization patterns of Chinese pangolin burrows by sympatric species in Guangdong Province, China, including differences in species composition using burrow mounds and burrow tunnels. We found that repeated visits to burrows by Chinese pangolin promoted the use of burrows by sympatric species, suggesting ...

Small mammal (Mammalia, orders Soricomorpha and Rodentia) communities in the lower Black river basin, Romania [PDF]

open access: yesTravaux du Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle “Grigore Antipa”, 2019
The survey of small mammal communities in the Lower Black River Basin was carried out between November 2005 and July 2012 in three locations. Using live traps several habitats have been investigated.

Tree shrews (Tupaia belangeri) exhibit novelty preference in the novel location memory task with 24-h retention periods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Novelty preference is pervasive in mammalian species, and describes an inherent tendency to preferentially explore novelty. The novel location memory task studied here assesses the ability of animals to form accurate memories of a spatial configuration ...

Prey Partitioning in a Diverse Carnivore Community: Implications for Reintroduced Fishers in Washington

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Using fecal DNA metabarcoding, we quantified dietary overlap among reintroduced fishers and sympatric coyotes, bobcats, and Pacific martens in Washington's North Cascades. Niche overlap was substantial for common prey but varied with body size, revealing fine‐scale resource partitioning that may limit fishers' access to energetically efficient prey ...

Occurrence of syntopic species of shrews (Mammalia, Eulipotyphla) in a montane cloud forest of Mexico

open access: yesMammalogy Notes, 2017
As part of a short-term survey for collecting shrews during October 2006, our fieldwork team recorded the coexistence of four species of shrews: 14 individuals of Cryptotis goldmani machetes (10♀ - 4♂), 14 of C.

Scaling of internal joint distance in the elbow of small‐ to medium‐sized mammals: Implications for range of motion analyses

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We investigated the internal joint distances (IJDs) of the humero‐ulnar and humero‐radial joint, within a sample of 15 small‐ to medium‐sized mammals and report isometric results. We also found that joint poses had no effect on IJDs and that IJDs scale isometrically within small species.

Soricidae (Mammalia, Insectivora) remains from three Late Miocene localities in western Hungary [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The Soricidae fauna of Sümeg, Csákvár and Széchenyi Hill (Hungary) is presented. The following taxa were identified in the fauna: Dinosorex sp., Amblycoptus oligodon KORMOS1926, Crusafontina endernica GIBERT1974, Crusafontina vicina (KRETZOJ,1954 ...
