A novel budgerigar-adenovirus belonging to group II avian adenovirus of Siadenovirus.

open access: yesVirus Research, 2009
Five budgerigars in the same breeding facility died or showed ruffled feathers. To determine the cause, five dead or euthanized budgerigars were examined. Splenomegaly was observed at necropsy in all birds examined. Histopathology of the spleen revealed a slight-to-moderate deletion of lymphocytes and increase of macrophages.

Genetic and Molecular Epidemiological Characterization of a Novel Adenovirus in Antarctic Penguins Collected between 2008 and 2013.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Antarctica is considered a relatively uncontaminated region with regard to the infectious diseases because of its extreme environment, and isolated geography.

A Novel Adenovirus in Chinstrap Penguins (Pygoscelis antarctica) in Antarctica

open access: yesViruses, 2014
Adenoviruses (family Adenoviridae) infect various organ systems and cause diseases in a wide range of host species. In this study, we examined multiple tissues from Chinstrap penguins (Pygoscelis antarctica), collected in Antarctica during 2009 and 2010,

Mechanistic Insights Into an Ancient Adenovirus Precursor Protein VII Show Multiple Nuclear Import Receptor Pathways

open access: yesTraffic, Volume 25, Issue 9, September 2024.
Adenoviral pVII proteins are multifunctional, highly basic, histone‐like proteins that can bind to and transport the viral genome into the host cell nucleus. Despite the identification of several nuclear localization signals (NLSs) in the pVII protein of

Genetic Evidence of Active Circulation and Evolution of Diverse Penguin Siadenoviruses in Antarctica Based on Partial DNA Sequences. [PDF]

open access: yesTransbound Emerg Dis
Antarctica, one of the most isolated and extreme regions on Earth, hosts diverse bird species that share breeding and feeding habitats, facilitating interspecies transmission of pathogens. In this study, we investigated penguin siadenoviruses using cloacal swab samples collected from Antarctic penguins between 2017 and 2023 to explore their genetic ...

Molecular Characterization Reveals Recombination and Host Exchange of Adenoviruses in Migratory Birds in China. [PDF]

open access: yesTransbound Emerg Dis
Migratory birds, because of their migration and roosting characteristics, can serve as major vectors for long‐distance transmission, recombination, and evolution of adenoviruses. China is one of the countries possessing the widest variety of birds in the world, with the global migration routes covering almost the entire territory.

Infection by Adenovirus Type 2 in a Short-Tailed Bat in Mexico. [PDF]

open access: yesCase Rep Vet Med
A short‐tailed female bat (Carollia perspicillata), 1 year old, died without apparent signs of the disease while on display at an amusement park in the Municipality of Montemorelos, Nuevo León, Mexico. Amphophilic nuclear inclusion bodies were observed in the intestinal epithelia, corresponding to the virus of the adenovirus genera. Although there have

Assessment on the efficacy of methods 2 to 5 and method 7 set out in Commission Regulation (EU) No 142/2011 to inactivate relevant pathogens when producing processed animal protein of porcine origin intended to feed poultry and aquaculture animals

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 21, Issue 7, July 2023., 2023
Abstract An assessment was conducted on the level of inactivation of relevant pathogens that could be present in processed animal protein of porcine origin intended to feed poultry and aquaculture animals when methods 2 to 5 and method 7, as detailed in Regulation (EU) No 142/2011, are applied.
