Tamm-Horsfall Glycoprotein Enhances PMN Phagocytosis by Binding to Cell Surface-Expressed Lactoferrin and Cathepsin G That Activates MAP Kinase Pathway

open access: yesMolecules, 2011
The molecular basis of polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) phagocytosis-enhancing activity (PEA) by human purified urinary Tamm-Horsfall glyco- protein (THP) has not been elucidated.

Counting glomeruli in human kidney specimens using ex vivo MRI without contrast agents

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 94, Issue 6, Page 2519-2528, December 2025.
Abstract Purpose The total number of glomeruli is an important indicator of kidney function and susceptibility to disease. Glomeruli, however, are difficult to image using MRI without contrast enhancement. For this reason, previous studies have used cationic ferritin as a contrast agent to detect glomeruli in ex vivo and in vivo perfused kidneys.

Differential expression of c-kit and CD43 in histological subtypes of adenoid cystic carcinoma of salivary gland

open access: yesSaudi Dental Journal, 2010
Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the salivary gland is characterized by a prolonged but inevitably unfavorable clinical course. Recent studies have suggested that the transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptor, c-kit proto-oncogene is involved in ACC ...

Beyond FimH: Diversity and Relevance of Carbohydrate‐Binding Fimbrial Proteins in Escherichia coli

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 26, Issue 17, September 15, 2025.
This review discusses fimbrial lectins found in Escherichia coli (E. coli) other than FimH, which could be targeted to treat E. coli pathogenicity as an alternative to antibiotic treatment. Escherichia coli (E. coli) is responsible for multiple diseases in humans and animals.

Antitumor Activities by a Humanized Cancer‐Specific Anti‐Podoplanin Monoclonal Antibody humPMab‐117 Against Human Tumors

open access: yesCancer Science, Volume 116, Issue 8, Page 2232-2242, August 2025.
A humanized cancer‐specific anti‐podoplanin monoclonal antibody humPMab‐117 exerts antibody‐dependent cellular cytotoxicity and complement‐dependent cytotoxicity against human tumor cells. In the xenograft tumor models, humPMab‐117 demonstrated strong antitumor efficacy.

Transthyretin is a metallopeptidase with an inducible active site [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
TTR (transthyretin) was found recently to possess proteolytic competency besides its well-known transport capabilities. It was described as a cryptic serine peptidase cleaving multiple natural substrates (including beta-amyloid and apolipoprotein A-I ...

Comparative Analysis of HMC3 and C20 Microglial Cell Lines Reveals Differential Myeloid Characteristics and Responses to Immune Stimuli

open access: yesImmunology, Volume 175, Issue 1, Page 84-102, May 2025.
This study highlights comparative proteomic and morphological analyses of HMC3 and C20 microglial cell lines under baseline and inflammatory stimuli (LPS and IFN‐γ). Despite a 76.6% similarity in proteins, unstimulated HMC3 showed a transcriptional cell protein profile, whereas unstimulated C20 had a cell protein profile associated with the immune ...

The Encephalomyocarditis Virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV) is a small non-enveloped single-strand RNA virus, the causative agent of not only myocarditis and encephalitis, but also neurological diseases, reproductive disorders and diabetes in many mammalian species.

E‐selectin affinity glycoproteomics reveals neuroendocrine proteins and the secretin receptor as a poor‐prognosis signature in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 19, Issue 3, Page 635-658, March 2025.
Screening colorectal tumors for glycoproteins linked to disease progression has revealed several potential therapeutic targets. The secretin receptor (SCTR), identified as a marker of poor prognosis and metastasis in colorectal cancer, has been shown to be a key carrier of N‐glycans with sialylated Lewis antigens. These cancer‐specific glycoproteoforms
