Seasonal changes on microbial metabolism and biomass in the euphotic layer of Sicilian Channel

Marine Environmental Research, 2015
As a part of a wider project on fisheries ecology, several biological and environmental parameters were monitored during two oceanographic cruises (BANSIC 2012 and NOVESAR 2013) in the Sicily Channel, which connects the Western and Eastern Mediterranean basins.

Decapod and Stomatopod Crustaceans From the Trawlable Bottoms of the Sicilian Channel (Central Mediterranean Sea)

Crustaceana, 1993
Abstract78 species of decapod and stomatopod crustaceans were collected during a two-year survey on the trawlable bottoms of the Sicilian Channel. Bathymetric range, size range, size of the smallest ovigerous females and their period of occurrence are given. Some brief remarks on Parasquilla ferussaci, Pontophilus norvegicus and Maja goltziana are made.

Observation of internal waves and seismic waves in the Sicilian Channel

Lettere Al Nuovo Cimento Series 2, 1985
Internal waves in the Sicilian Channel are observed in synthetic aperture radar images gathered by the Seasat satellite. A correlation is here presented between these waves and data collected by a seismograph recently installed on the Island of Pantelleria, which show intense seismic activity followed by anomalous signals.

Geographical distribution of Aristaeomorpha foliacea (Crustacea: Aristaeidae) in the Sicilian Channel (Mediterranean Sea)

2023
The distribution of the red giant shrimp (Aristaeomorpha foliacea) in the Sicilian Channel (Central Mediterranean Sea) is described and geographical differences suggested by the available data set are qualitatively analysed. The unit stock assumption does not seem an unrealistic hypothesis, considering the state of knowledge.

Size At Sexual Maturity in Red Shrimp Females, Aristaeomorpha Foliacea, From the Sicilian Channel (Mediterranean Sea)

Crustaceana, 1995
Abstract This paper reports on the maturity pattern and the estimation of length at sexual maturity for Aristaeomorpha foliacea females, based on two years of seasonal research trawl surveys. Two approaches were used: gonadic condition (empirical scale) and presence/absence of spermatophores. Ready-to-spawn females (IV stage) occurred almost

The Graham and Terrible volcanic province (NW Sicilian Channel): gravimetric constraints for the magmatic manifestations

Bulletin of Volcanology, 2019
A few kilometres off the SW coast of Sicily lie the shallow banks of Graham, Terrible and Nerita. These morphological reliefs are affected by two lithospheric scale, N–S trending tectonic lineaments known as Capo Granitola to the west and Sciacca to the east.

Growth and Mortality of the Red Shrimp Aristaeomorpha Foliacea in the Sicilian Channel (Mediterranean Sea)

Crustaceana, 1994
The deep water red shrimp Aristaeomorpha foliacea is an important commercial species for the trawl fisheries in the Sicilian Channel (Central Mediterranean Sea; FAO statistical area 37.5). An assessment program was recently implemented by ITPP-CNR. Two years of seasonal research trawl surveys were carried out on the Italian side of the Sicilian Channel.

Sexing Adult Cory's Shearwater by Discriminant Analysis of Body Measurements on Linosa Island (Sicilian Channel), Italy

Waterbirds: The International Journal of Waterbird Biology, 2001
-Males and females of many avian species may show no plumage dimorphism, but often can be sexed by differences in body measurements. Sex determination of many Cory's Shearwaters Calonectris diomedea, was possible by multiplying bill length by bill depth.

Planktonic communities in an anchovy spawning area of the Sicilian Channel: trophic assessment.

2014
The trophic structure and related indices were investigated to assess the microplankton functionality in Engraulis encrasicolus (Chordata: Actinopterygii, Clupeiformes) spawning area of the Sicilian Channel. The integrated analysis of trophic parameters and correlated indices (C/N, N/P, POC/LAP+?GLU, POC/Chl-a) highlighted both the heterogeneity and ...
