Influence Of The Surface Circulation On The Spawning Strategy Of The Sicilian Channel Anchovy

No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author.Several interdisciplinary surveys carried out in the Sicily Channel within the European Union projects MED96-052 and MED98-070 have evidenced the coupling between the hydrography and the spawning strategy of the Sicilian channel anchovy.

Microbial metabolism and turnover of organic matter in the euphotic layer of Sicilian Channel

2014
With the aim of providing an ecosystem approach to fisheries management, the monitoring of biological and environmental information was carried out during two oceanographic cruises (BANSIC 2012-13) performed in the Sicilian Channel in different seasonal conditions. The Sicilian Channel is a spawning area for the Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus, 1758),

Use of acoustic descriptors to identify sardine and anchovy schools on the Sicilian Channel continental shelf

2009
Sardine pilchardus and anchovy stocks are a commercially important resource for the purse seine fisheries in the South Sicilian continental shelf (Patti et al. 2004). These pelagic species form mono or plurispecific schools during the day for feeding, defense and reproductive advantages and tend to disperse during the night (Pitcher,1993).

The effect of heavy metals presence on benthic foraminifera communities in the Gulf of Gela (Sicilian Channel)

2011
Benthic foraminifera are very sensitive to oceanographic parameter variations, to which they rapidly response through changes in the abundance and/or richness of their associations and in morphological variations of their shell. Many studies have used benthic foraminifera as bioindicators. We investigated recent benthic foraminiferal assemblages in the
