The sigma phase revisited: an alternative pathway to a trial structure

Acta Crystallographica Section B Structural Science, 1996
A new derivation of a trial structure of the sigma phase is described. It is based on the stochastic method in a form which is particularly useful in the derivation of trial structures of high symmetry, provided that the radii of the component metals are of the appropriate relative magnitudes.

Sigma phase precipitates in Mo-Re alloys

Acta Metallurgica, 1964
Abstract Sigma phase precipitates in a Mo-35 at. % Re alloy were studied by transmission electron-microscopy; the habit plane of the precipitates and the orientation relationship between the precipitates and matrix was determined. The shape of a sigma phase precipitate in Mo-Re alloys is platelet.

Sigma phase in 321 stainless steel

Materialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik, 1973
AbstractThe failure of a 321 stainless steel flange due to the presence of sigma phase was used to check etching procedures for sigma phase in 321 SS as well as to establish the time‐temperature diagram for sigma phase in this material.

The magnetic properties of sigma phase alloys

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1966
Measurements of intrinsic magnetization as a function of temperature and composition have been made on a number of first series sigma phase alloys. In conflict with earlier work, ferromagnetism has been observed in only two systems, Fe Cr and Fe V. The results on Fe Cr exhibit many interesting features, and appear to be consistent with a ferrimagnetic ...

Concerning Sigma-Phase in Molybdenum-Rhenium Alloys

Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 1994
Molybdenum-rhenium alloys containing 40 to 48% Re by weight are commonly used for many high-technology applications. Higher rhenium contents bring the alloys into a two-phase region with the presence of brittle o-phase, an intermetallic compound with the approximate composition of Mo2Re3. Alloys with lower rhenium contents do not possess sufficient low-

Phase Stability of the Sigma Phase in Fe-Cr Based Alloys

MRS Proceedings, 1995
AbstractThe FeCr sigma phase is a good example of a complex structure: it. has 30 atoms in the unit cell and 5 inequivalent lattice sites, and it belongs to the class of tetrahedrally close packed structures, also known as Frank-Kaspar structures. So far.

Sigma Phase in Several Cast Austenitic Steels

1950
Since there are many applications of modern piping systems that involve metal that will withstand temperatures up to 1750 F., producers of cast austenitic steel valves and fittings have been faced with the problem of structural stability of these castings when operated long periods of time at temperatures ranging from 1000 F. to 1750 F.

Linear Sigma Model and Phase Transitions

2013
In Chap. 3 we have commented about the experimental minimum of \(\eta /s\) observed at the phase transition for some fluids. We have supported this fact by explicitly calculating this coefficient for the atomic Argon.
