Subset Selection for Kernel-Based Signal Reconstruction

open access: yes, 2018
In this work, we introduce subset selection strategies for signal reconstruction based on kernel methods, particularly for the case of kernel-ridge regression.

An FPGA-Calibrated Modulo ADC for High-Dynamic-Range Signal Acquisition

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of Circuits and Systems
Conventional analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) suffer from irreversible clipping when input amplitudes exceed their fixed full-scale range. Modulo ADCs address this by folding the input signal prior to quantization; however, stable hardware operation ...

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

WAVELET-BASED RECONSTRUCTION FOR UNLIMITED SAMPLING

open access: yes, 2018
Self-reset analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) allow for digitization of a signal with a high dynamic range. The reset action is equivalent to a modulo operation performed on the signal.

Plug-and-Play Priors for Model Based Reconstruction

open access: yes, 2013
Model-based reconstruction is a powerful framework for solving a variety of inverse problems in imaging. The method works by combining a forward model of the imaging system with a prior model of the image itself, and the reconstruction is then computed ...

Tailoring Functional Properties of Ti–Ni–Cu Shape Memory Alloy Thin Films for MEMS Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive study of critical parameters required to develop well‐performing Ti–Ni–Cu thin film shape memory alloy microactuators is provided. Materials science and device integration aspects are integrated by addressing structural and physical relationships using complementary characterization techniques as well as a practical fabrication solution

Photoacoustic image reconstruction from a frequency-invariant source localization perspective

open access: yes, 2016
Photoacoustic imaging provides high spatial resolution images of biological tissues and is useful for molecular imaging. The exact reconstruction algorithms for photoacoustic imaging are either slow or assume a continuous sensor with infinite bandwidth ...
