Signature quantization [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2003
We associate to the action of a compact Lie group G on a line bundle over a compact oriented even-dimensional manifold a virtual representation of G using a twisted version of the signature operator. We obtain analogues of various theorems in the more standard theory of geometric quantization.

Pseudorandom signatures [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 8th ACM SIGSAC symposium on Information, computer and communications security, 2013
We develop a three-level hierarchy of privacy notions for (unforgeable) digital signature schemes. We first prove mutual independence of existing notions of anonymity and confidentiality, and then show that these are implied by higher privacy goals.

The Signature of a Splice [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Mathematics Research Notices, 2016
We study the behavior of the signature of colored links [Flo05, CF08] under the splice operation. We extend the construction to colored links in integral homology spheres and show that the signature is almost additive, with a correction term independent of the links. We interpret this correction term as the signature of a generalized Hopf link and give

vcferr: Development, validation, and application of a single nucleotide polymorphism genotyping error simulation framework [version 1; peer review: 1 approved, 2 approved with reservations]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2022
Motivation: Genotyping error can impact downstream single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-based analyses. Simulating various modes and levels of error can help investigators better understand potential biases caused by miscalled genotypes. Methods: We have

Signatures and flatness.

open access: yesJournal für die reine und angewandte Mathematik (Crelles Journal), 1993
Let \(Y\subset\mathbb{R}^ n\) be a codimension one analytic set, and fix a signature \(\sigma\) on \(\mathbb{R}^ n\backslash Y\) \((\sigma\) associates a \(\text{sign}+1\) or \(-1\) to each connected component of \(\mathbb{R}^ n\backslash Y)\). The signature \(\sigma\) is admissible at \(x\in Y\) when the germ \(\sigma_ x\) is induced by a germ of ...

Advances and Remaining Challenges in the Study of Influenza and Anthrax Infection in Lung Cell Culture

open access: yesChallenges, 2018
For over 30 years, immortalized lung cells have enabled researchers to elucidate lung-pathogen molecular interactions. However, over the last five years, numerous commercial companies are now providing affordable, ready-to-use primary lung cells for use ...

Prenatal selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) exposure induces working memory and social recognition deficits by disrupting inhibitory synaptic networks in male mice

open access: yesMolecular Brain, 2019
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are commonly prescribed antidepressant drugs in pregnant women. Infants born following prenatal exposure to SSRIs have a higher risk for behavioral abnormalities, however, the underlying mechanisms remains ...

The encoding of individual identity in dolphin signature whistles : how much information is needed? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) produce many vocalisations, including whistles that are unique to the individual producing them. Such “signature whistles” play a role in individual recognition and maintaining group integrity.

An evaluation of the impact of aggressive hypertension, diabetes and smoking cessation management on CVD outcomes at the population level: a dynamic simulation analysis

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2019
Background Evidence from randomized control trials suggest that coupled with smoking cessation interventions, CVD events can be reduced significantly if hypertension and diabetes patients are properly managed, raising practical what-if questions at the ...

SeqScreen: accurate and sensitive functional screening of pathogenic sequences via ensemble learning

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2022
The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the importance of accurate detection of known and emerging pathogens. However, robust characterization of pathogenic sequences remains an open challenge.
