Synthesis of controlled polymeric cross-linked coatings via iniferter polymerisation in the presence of tetraethyl thiuram disulphide chain terminator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A “grafting from” approach has been used for controlled deposition of cross- linked polymers by living radical polymerisation. Borosilicate glass was modified with N,N-diethylaminodithiocarbamoylpropyl(trimethoxy)silane, in order to confine the ...

Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

Effects of silane coating on the properties of glass fibre and glass fibre reinforced epoxy resin

open access: yes, 2010
Single fibre tensile testing and microbond testing have been used to benchmark the influence of silane coupling agents on the performance of glass fibre for reinforced epoxy resin composites.

High‐Index, Low‐Loss Optical Material Platforms for Ultra‐Broadband Ultraviolet‐to‐Visible Achromatic Metalenses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An integrated material platform combining engineered SiNx thin films and printable ZrO2 nanoparticle‐embedded resin enables broadband achromatic metalenses from the ultraviolet to visible range. The demonstrated meta‐optics achieve near‐diffraction‐limited focusing with minimal chromatic aberration.

The differential adsorption of silanes from solution onto model E-glass surfaces using high resolution XPS

open access: yes, 2007
γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APS), γ-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPS) and their mixture have been adsorbed onto acid-treated model E-glass fibres from aqueous solution with different concentrations.

Dextran-silane coating chemistry for SiO2-based suspension array system

open access: yes, 2011
Suspension arrays provide an efficient way to identify and quantify biopolymers (usually proteins or nucleic acid sequences) in high throughput. Among various suspension arrays, self-encoded silica particle arrays, which benefit from higher sample ...

Microfabricated Anisotropic Myobundles for the Scalable Production of Cardiac Tissue Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the anisotropy of cardiac tissue remains an outstanding challenge in the field of cardiac tissue engineering. Here, we introduce an approach to generate anisotropic cardiac myobundles using cell‐adhesive, synthetic, electrospun fibers and stem cell‐derived cardiac fibroblasts.

Mechanical and tribological investigation of jute fiber reinforcement in organic automotive brake pads and water repellency gain in natural fiber reinforced pads

open access: yesEuropean Mechanical Science
Many studies have shown that the materials used in the composition of brake pads are directly related to friction, wear mechanisms and tribological behavior. Heat-resistant jute fiber is an organic fiber that can be added to the composition of brake pads

Effect of Curing Temperature and Curing Period on Surface Protection Ability of Concrete Using Both Silane and Silane-Siloxane Layers

open access: yes, 2013
Effect of three curing temperatures and two periods after coating of both silane and silane-siloxane layers on the surface protection abilities of concrete was investigated. Three temperatures were 5°C, 20°C and 60°C. One period was three days at 5°C, 20°
