Morphological structures and tribological performance of unsaturated polyester based untreated/silane-treated halloysite nanotubes

open access: yes, 2013
In this study, pristine halloysite nanotubes (HNT) and silane-treated halloysite (s-HNT) particles were incorporated into highly crosslink unsaturated polyester (UPE) to explore the morphological structure and tribological performance of UPE-HNT ...

Ethanolic Transesterification with Methyl Acetate Catalyzed by SBA-15 Functionalized with Imidazolium–Sulfonic Groups

open access: yesCrystals
The global demand for biodiesel production is steadily increasing. Conventional homogeneous basic catalysts, while widely used in the industry, face significant drawbacks, such as the requirement for high-quality feedstock, excessive waste generation ...

Investigation of strength recovery of recycled heat treated glass fibres through chemical treatments

open access: yes, 2013
The strength loss of thermally treated glass fibre (GF) at elevated temperature is well reported in literature. This phenomenon even occurs at short period of time such as 25 minutes.

Digitizing the Filtration Interface: A Smart, Modular Janus Wood Platform for Self‐Reporting Oil/Water Remediation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work developed a smart Janus wood membrane integrating asymmetric wettability with built‐in electrical sensing for oil‐water separation. The membrane achieved > 99.5% separation efficiency and high flux by leveraging wood's natural anisotropic pore structure.

Modification of kraft wood-pulp fibre with silica for surface functionalisation

open access: yes, 2008
A new science strategy for natural fibre modification was devised in which glass surface properties would be imparted to wood-derived fibre. The enhancements known from addition of silane reagents to glass fibre–polymer composites could therefore be ...

Bioinspired Mechanically Robust Organic–Inorganic Hybridized Bio‐Adhesives With up to 50% Inorganic Components by Bi‐Continuous Phase Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A robust plant protein adhesive was prepared by fabricating a bi‐continuous organic–inorganic hybrid structure. Compared with traditional organic–inorganic hybrid adhesives, the addition amount of inorganic phase is increased from 0.2%–3.0% to 50%, and the strength and toughness are increased by 6 and 121 times, respectively.

Conformal Metallosaccharide Hybrid Films for Protecting Wood Surfaces From Environmental Damage

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ti‐ribose hybrid films fabricated by molecular layer deposition form a conformal and uniform coating on wood surfaces, which provides water repellence, dimensional stability, and resistance to acidic and alkaline environments, while preserving the natural appearance.
