Nature of Adhesion Through Silane Coupling Agents
1982Most thermosetting polymers undergo some shrinkage during cure. This may range from 6 to 10% for polyesters to 3 to 4% for epoxies. Such shrinkage in the presence of fillers or reinforcements sets up stresses at the polymer-resin interface. Bush1 embedded strain gauge transducers in a polyester resin cured at 120°C and measured internal static ...

Other Applications of Silane Coupling Agents
1982In addition to their applications as coupling agents in mineral-filled organic resin composites, the various organofunctional silanes are arousing much interest in other areas of surface modification. A symposium on silylated surfaces, held at the Midland Macromolecular Institute in 1978, was devoted to some of these “other” applications of silylated ...

Aqueous Solutions of Silane Coupling Agents
1982Because organofunctional alkoxysilanes are often hydrolyzed before being applied to surfaces to function as coupling agents, it is important to understand their reactions both with and in water. Commercial practice is to apply silane coupling agents to glass from aqueous solutions of the alkoxysilanes.
