Investigation of silica - PVA xerogel microstructure evolution during thermal treatment by SANS experiment

open access: yes, 2004
The purpose of the study was to investigate the appearance of certain microstructures developing in the SiO2/PVA nanocomposite xerogels at different temperatures by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). The samples were prepared by the alcoxide route of

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

Silica-Sepiolite Nanoarchitectures

open access: yesJournal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2013
Silica-sepiolite heterostructured materials have been prepared as novel nanoarchitectures by generation of SiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) on the surface of the sepiolite fibrous clay mineral. The synthetic approach implies the use of organo-sepiolites dispersed in isopropanol to which is incorporated a selected silicon alcoxysilane, such as ...

Effects of nitric oxide synthase inhibitor - Nitro-L-Arginine Methyl Ester, on silica-inducated inflammatory reaction and apoptosis

open access: yes, 2006
BACKGROUND: Although nitric oxide is overproduced by macrophages and neutrophils after exposure to silica, its role in silica-induced inflammatory reaction and apoptosis needs further clarification.

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

BLASTFURNACE SLAG-PORTLAND CEMENT PLUGGING MATERIAL FOR HIGH TEMPERATURE WELLS STRENGTHENING

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Нефть и газ, 2016
The authors suggest a solution of the problem of improving the quality of oil and gas wells cementing in the high temperature intervals by using the blast-furnace wastes as granulated slags introduced in the plugging material composition.

The Nanostructures Of Amorphous Silicas

open access: yesMicroscopy and Microanalysis, 2000
Abstract Silicon dioxide is an important catalyst material, a mainstay insulator in microelectronics, and a widely distributed terrestrial and marine skeletal mineral. Geologically, it is found in one of a large number of polymorphic crystalline states, but can also be rendered “amorphous” by rapid cooling from the melt through a glass ...

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Laser smoothing of binary gratings and multilevel etched structures in fused silica

open access: yes, 2010
We describe a promising approach to the processing of micro-optical components, where CO2 laser irradiation in raster scan is used to generate localized surface melting of binary or multilevel structures on silica, fabricated by conventional reactive-ion
