Interstellar Polarization by Graphite–Silicate Grain Mixtures
Nature, 1969The observed wavelength dependence of interstellar polarization may be understood on the basis of graphite–silicate grain mixtures.

Kinetics of Mullite Grain Growth in Alumino Silicate Fibers
Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2005Grain growth kinetics of mullite in laboratory‐produced and commercial (3M‐Nextel 720) alumino silicate fibers was analyzed in the temperature range between 1500° and 1700°C. The lab fibers consist of mullite plus traces of α‐alumina, while the phase content of the commercial Nextel 720 fibers is about 60 wt%

Laboratory Measurements on the Infrared Features of Interstellar Silicate Grains
Symposium - International Astronomical Union, 1980Thin layers of an amorphous silicate coating were obtained by ion sputtering of crystalline olivine on KBr substrates. The dielectric functions of the coating were determined from reflection and transmission measurements in the wavelength range between 5 and 25 μ.

Interstellar Silicate Dust: Modeling and Grain Alignment
2013We examine some aspects of the alignment of silicate dust grains with respect to the interstellar magnetic field. First, we consider possible observational constraints on the magnetic properties of the grains. Second, we investigate the role of collisions with gas atoms and the production of H2 molecules on the grain surface in the alignment process ...

Grain-Boundary Diffusion Kinetics in Silicate and Oxide Minerals
1991Geologists have long held the belief that diffusion along grain boundaries in rocks would provide the means for mass transport over distances in the range of centimetres to metres needed to explain various metasomatic phenomena. Indeed, measured grain-boundary diffusion coefficients support this belief, as the ratio D i GB /D i VOL is commonly greater ...
