Upsampling DINOv2 Features for Unsupervised Vision Tasks and Weakly Supervised Materials Segmentation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Feature from recent image foundation models (DINOv2) are useful for vision tasks (segmentation, object localization) with little or no human input. Once upsampled, they can be used for weakly supervised micrograph segmentation, achieving strong results when compared to classical features (blurs, edge detection) across a range of material systems.

Zinc and Strontium‐Doped Titania Nanotube Surfaces Enhance Antibacterial Activity and Increase Osteogenic Differentiation of Mesenchymal Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Bacterial infection and poor integration often lead to orthopedic implant failure. Modifying implant surfaces can improve osseointegration. Titanium has been engineered to form titania nanotubes doped with zinc and strontium. These surfaces were evaluated for antibacterial effects and their ability to promote osteogenic differentiation in stem cells ...

Dynamic Modulus and Damping of Boron, Silicon Carbide, and Alumina Fibers [PDF]

open access: yes
The dynamic modulus and damping capacity for boron, silicon carbide, and silicon carbide coated boron fibers were measured from-190 to 800 C. The single fiber vibration test also allowed measurement of transverse thermal conductivity for the silicon ...

On the sintering of silicon carbide [PDF]

open access: yes
This document deals with the sintering of silicon carbide using pressureless sintering. This technique makes it possible to sinter a primarily covalent material to usable densities up to over 98% thD without having to use a high amount of sinter ...

Methane Pyrolysis Performance in Catalytic Molten Media for Hydrogen Production From the Perspective of Bubble Column Reactor Design and Configuration

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the hydrogen production routes from natural gas (methane), methane pyrolysis offers a cleaner option than the established steam methane reforming by producing CO2‐free hydrogen. However, in fixed bed reactors over solid catalysts, this technology experiences rapid catalyst deactivation due to carbon (coke) deposition encapsulating its ...

A study of the applicability of gallium arsenide and silicon carbide as aerospace sensor materials [PDF]

open access: yes
Most of the piezoresistive sensors, to date, are made of silicon and germanium. Unfortunately, such materials are severly restricted in high temperature environments.

Experimental Characterization of Thermal, Acoustic, Magnetic, and Electrical Properties of Additive Manufactured Composites Reinforced With Ceramic Powders for Robotic Arms

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 142, Issue 16, April 20, 2025.
ABSTRACT An extensive experimental analysis was conducted to assess the thermal, acoustic, magnetic, and electrical properties of composite materials reinforced with varying ratios of silicon carbide (SiC) and alumina (Al₂O₃) powders, with a focus on enhancing the functionality of robotic arms.
