Silicone Oil Injection in Aphakic Eyes: A Modified Technique

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1985
ABSTRACT To fill the vitreous cavity completely with silicone oil has been difficult in aphakic eyes. This procedure has been simplified with the use of an air pump system combined with a 30-gauge needle to tap the anterior chamber. In this manner, the silicone oil bubble reaches the pupillary margin and does not flow out of the sclerotomy ...

Electroretinogram and Electrooculogram of Eyes with Intravitreously Injected Silicone Oil

Ophthalmologica, 2010
In clinical and in vitro conditions, the effect of intravitreously injected silicone oil upon the electroretinogram and electrooculogram was investigated. The recorded potentials were lower in the eyes with silicone oil compared to those in which the retinas were reattached without silicone. Retinal changes, caused by the previously existing detachment

Presumed Silicone Oil Droplets After Intravitreal Pegcetacoplan Injections

JAMA Ophthalmology, 2023
ImportanceRecently, intravitreal pegcetacoplan became the first drug to gain US Food and Drug Administration approval for the treatment of geographic atrophy associated with nonexudative age-related macular degeneration, but the administration of this medication may be associated with unanticipated posttreatment complications.ObjectiveTo assess the ...

IDENTIFICATION OF SILICONE OIL IN THE RETINA AFTER INTRAVITREAL INJECTION

Retina, 1992
Retinal tissue obtained from 2 eyes that had been injected with silicone oil for 2 years was stained with monoclonal antibodies against macrophages and studied by light and electron microscopy and energy-dispersive x-ray analysis. Both specimens showed areas with a relatively intact architecture as well as parts with loss of normal structure.

Intraocular Injection of Silicone Oil For Experimental Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1983
We evaluated the effect of intraocular silicone oil as an internal tamponade on an animal model of proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Lensectomy and vitrectomy were performed on two groups of pigmented rabbits. Twenty-five rabbit eyes then had 1,000 centistokes' viscosity silicone oil injected into the vitreous cavity; 20 control eyes received balanced ...

[Keratopathy following vitrectomy with silicone oil injection].

Fortschritte der Ophthalmologie : Zeitschrift der Deutschen Ophthalmologischen Gesellschaft, 1990
We present a retrospective study on keratopathy following vitrectomy and injection of SF96 silicone oil (viscosity 1000 centipoise, n = 232 eyes) and the purified OP 1000 silicone oil (viscosity 1000 centipoise, n = 129 eyes). In cases with aniridia, with closed inferior basal iridectomy (IBI) or without IBI, keratopathy was found in 74 of the 166 eyes

Intravitreal Silicone Oil Droplets After Intravitreal Drug Injections

Retina, 2008
To present the finding of tiny silicone oil droplets in 15 eyes of 15 patients after intravitreal injections of an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agent or triamcinolone acetonide and to discuss the likely source of silicone oil.In an observational case series, charts of patients who had undergone intravitreal injections by one surgeon were ...

The influence of intravitreously injected silicone oil on electrophysiological potentials of the eye

Documenta Ophthalmologica, 1986
In a prospective study the effect of silicone oil injected in the vitreous cavity was monitored electrophysiologically in six patients who were treated for retinal detachment. Electroretinograms (ERG) and electrooculograms (EOG) were recorded before, shortly after, and up to four months following the removal of the oil.

[Observations on vitrectomy with silicone oil injection].

[Zhonghua yan ke za zhi] Chinese journal of ophthalmology, 1994
Silicone oils were injected in 37 eyes of 37 patients among 95 patients performed vitrectomy during 1988-1990. The indication was complicated retinal detachment except for 2 cases of diabetic proliferative retinopathy and vitreous hemorrhage. In 29 (78.4%) of the 37 eyes, the retina was totally reattached, and in 7 eyes partially reattached that did ...

[Visual changes after silicone oil injection].

Fortschritte der Ophthalmologie : Zeitschrift der Deutschen Ophthalmologischen Gesellschaft, 1992
Patients frequently complain of visual changes after intraocular silicone oil injection. The degree of these changes as well as refractive changes were analyzed in 11 aphacic eyes that had a postoperative visual acuity of at least 0.1. Visual acuity and refraction were obtained with the patients in a supine position.
