[Toxic substances with silicone oil after intraocular injections].

Der Ophthalmologe : Zeitschrift der Deutschen Ophthalmologischen Gesellschaft, 1996
In articles about the analysis of intraocular silicone oil, mostly the amount and toxicity of low-molecular-weight components (LMWC) have been investigated. This study was intended to analyze the components of silicone oil following a longer intraocular application. We analyzed silicone oil removed from human eyes with PVR a few months postoperatively.

Behaviour of Retinal Proliferation after Silicone Oil Injection

1986
Silicone oil is injected into the vitreous chamber at the end of surgery for retinal detachment with PVR if the condition is severe enough to convince the surgeon that success is not sufficiently guaranteed. The purpose of the injection of silicone oil into the vitreous chamber is to maintain a tamponade for a prolonged period of time.
