First insights into oceanic manta ray movements in Japan using satellite telemetry

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Japanese waters represent the northern distributional limit of the western Pacific distribution of the oceanic manta ray (Mobula birostris), yet movement ecology in this region remains poorly understood. We report movements of the first satellite‐tagged individual in Japan.

Near‐infrared confocal imaging reveals the spatial organisation of far‐red photosynthesis in Shark Bay microbial mats and Halomicronema sp.

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Far‐red light (FRL) cyanobacteria occupy spectrally filtered habitats where visible wavelengths are depleted but far‐red radiation persists. Shark Bay (Western Australia) stromatolitic microbial mats provide such a habitat, containing subsurface cyanobacterial communities in which chlorophyll d/f (Chl d/f)‐containing phototrophs coexist with ...

Functional morphology and biomechanics of the locomotor apparatus in the large Late Triassic carnivore Postosuchus kirkpatricki (Archosauria: Rauisuchidae)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
A three‐dimensional model is used to analyze the locomotor biomechanics of the large Late Triassic archosaurian reptile Postosuchus kirkpatricki. The study finds that it is more uncertain than previously concluded whether it was quadrupedal or bipedal, and plantigrade or digitigrade, but it clearly had locomotor specializations including large hindlimb

The Narrative Construction of Internal Organizational Legitimacy

open access: yesJournal of Management Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract Organizations torn by significant contradictions may struggle to maintain internal legitimacy. Taking a narrative perspective, and drawing on a case study of Walgreens, a Fortune 500 retail pharmacy, we develop a process model that shows how organizations with an entrenched conflict in their official narratives manage the resulting polyphony ...

The Greenland–Scotland Ridge in a Changing Ocean: Time to Act?

open access: yesMarine Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Greenland–Scotland Ridge is a submarine mountain that rises up to 500 m below the sea surface and extends from the east coast of Greenland to the continental shelf of Iceland and across the Faroe Islands to Scotland. The ridge not only separates deeper ocean basins on either side, that is, the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans, but also ...

Periodontal Therapy–Related Changes in Clinical Parameters, Active‐Matrix Metalloproteinase‐8 and C‐Reactive Protein in Prediabetes and Diabetes

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives This study investigated the effect of nonsurgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) on periodontal clinical parameters, active‐matrix metalloproteinase‐8 (aMMP‐8), high sensitivity C‐reactive protein (hsCRP), and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and their relationships in diabetes and prediabetes patients with periodontitis.

Long‐term stability of vertical bone augmentation in implant dentistry: A domain‐based review

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Vertical ridge deficiency remains one of the most challenging conditions in preimplant surgery. Several techniques aim to restore lost vertical alveolar height, each with specific indications and limitations. Although these procedures often yield favorable short‐term outcomes with stable bone levels, their long‐term performance is ...

‘Chrystalline Talk’: Thomas Browne's Poetics of Concretion and Mineral Plain Style

open access: yesRenaissance Studies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article charts the figuration, both material and rhetorical, of mineral bodies in early modern natural philosophy, paying particular attention to the second book of Thomas Browne's Pseudodoxia Epidemica (1646). It argues that concretions (stony calculi and crystals formed through the aggregation of physical matter) make manifest a mineral
