Pathogenicity of the Steinernema feltiae TUR-S3 (Rhabditida: Steinernematidae) Isolate on Oryzaephilus surinamensis (Coleoptera: Silvanidae) and Tribolium confusum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

open access: yesTürk Tarım ve Doğa Bilimleri Dergisi
For many years, pesticides have been employed to manage pests that cause losses in agricultural yield and quality during storage. However, as the harmful effects of pesticides on non-target organisms became apparent, alternative approaches gained ...

Pairing Residual Contact Insecticide Use With Long‐Lasting Insecticide‐Incorporated Netting to Reduce Dispersal and Damage by Stored Product Insects

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 149, Issue 4, Page 501-514, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Long‐lasting insecticide‐incorporated netting (LLIN) can intercept insects and has shown promise for pest management before and after harvest in agriculture. Understanding how to incorporate LLIN into existing integrated pest management (IPM) programs, with other commonly used tactics like residual contact insecticides, can significantly ...

The sublethal impacts of five insecticidal formulations on Oryzaephilus surinamensis behavioral traits

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 80, Issue 10, Page 5334-5341, October 2024.
Deltamethrin, α‐cypermethrin, and λ‐cyhalothrin provided high toxicity to Oryzaephilus surinamensis. λ‐Cyhalothrin and deltamethrin extended stop times; α‐cypermethrin reduced walks and increased climbing attempts. Insecticides did not affect the interval spent on food. Abstract BACKGROUND Mortality caused by various pyrethroids, and neonicotinoids has

Essential Oils in Stored Product Insect Pest Control

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Among botanical extracts used as insecticides, essential oils (EOs) are promising alternatives to chemical insecticides. EOs are synthesized by plants, and they play a key role in plant signaling processes including also attractiveness toward pollinators and beneficial insects.

Differential Effects of Abiotic Factors on the Insecticidal Efficacy of Diatomaceous Earth against Three Major Stored Product Beetle Species

open access: yesAgronomy, 2022
This study evaluated the influence of temperature and relative humidity (RH) on the insecticidal effect of diatomaceous earth (DE) at two concentrations, 500 and 1000 ppm, on wheat, for the control of Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens) (Coleoptera ...

Patterns of aerial arthropod biomass and diversity from three regions of boreal Alaska

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 826-855, September 2024.
We documented aerial arthropod biomass and diversity over 4 years in three regions in boreal Alaska—two in central Alaska and one in southcentral Alaska. Traps yielded 115,078 specimens of 15 orders and 692 unique taxa. Mean aerial arthropod biomass was more than three times higher in Fairbanks than in Anchorage.
