Control of bacterial disease in small scale fresh-water aquaculture: Project R0754. Project completion report December 1998 - May 1999 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The work presented here represents an 18-month study to examine the relationship between environmental conditions, bacterial load in the water and bacteria levels in tissue macrophages of a range of clinically healthy freshwater fish species, farmed in a

SOURCES OF LIPIDS IN DIETS FOR SILVER CATFISH (Rhamdia quelen) JUVENILES

open access: yesBoletim do Instituto de Pesca, 2019
The purpose of this study was to evaluate different lipid sources in diets for silver catfish juveniles regarding aspects of productive performance, centesimal composition, hepatic histology, biochemical responses, and oxidative stress. A total of 300 juveniles with an initial mean weight of 18.45 ± 1.22g were distributed in 20 net-pens of 1m3 ...

Haematological and parasitological assessment of silver catfish Rhamdia quelen farmed in Southern Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária, 2014
This study evaluated for two years the haematological parameters and the occurrence of gill parasites in silver catfish Rhamdia quelen, farmed in the state of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. Between March 2010 and January 2012, a total of 137 fish were caught in a fish farm to compare the haematological and parasitological analysis, during hot and ...

A new catfish species of Microcambeva Costa & Bockmann, 1994 (Siluriformes: Trichomycteridae) from southern Brazil, with a redescription of M. ribeirae Costa, Lima & Bizerril, 2004

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Among the few species of Microcambeva reported as occurring in more than one hydrographic basin, M. ribeirae has been previously listed from both the Ribeira de Iguape and the Guaraqueçaba basins. However, morphological and molecular analyses revealed that the specimens from Guaraqueçaba represent a new species, which is described in this ...

Survival, growth and metabolic parameters of silver catfish, Rhamdia quelen, juveniles exposed to different waterborne nitrite levels

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology
High nitrite (NO2-) levels may develop in aquaculture systems due to high fish density, but studies of lethal concentration values and the effect of NO2- on metabolic parameters and growth are scarce.

A Systematic Review of Biofloc Technology and Periphyton in Giant Freshwater Prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) Aquaculture

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 2, April 2026.
Biofloc technology and periphyton‐based systems enhance the sustainable production of giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii). A PRISMA‐guided review (2005 – 2024) shows that BFT improves survival (75 – 78 %) and feed efficiency, while periphyton supports natural productivity in grow‐out.
