Single-Molecule Studies of Enhanced Fluorescence on Silver Island Films [PDF]

open access: yesPlasmonics, 2007
We investigated enhanced fluorescence of Cyanine 5 dyesnear silver island films (SIFs) by the use of single moleculespectroscopic method. We found that, on average, the Cy5molecules are 18-fold brighter on SIFs than on a glasssurface and that single-molecule lifetimes are 10-foldshorter on SIFs as compared to glass.

Silver island film substrates for ultrasensitive fluorescence detection of (bio)molecules

Photosynthesis Research, 2015
A silver island film (SIF) substrate was used to demonstrate that Metal-Enhanced Fluorescence (MEF) is a powerful tool to enable detection of emission from (bio)molecules at very low concentrations. The experiments were carried out with the Fenna-Matthews-Olson (FMO) pigment-protein complex from the photosynthetic green sulfur bacterium Chlorobaculum ...

Fluorescent lifetimes of molecules on silver-island films

Optics Letters, 1982
The fluorescence of molecules on silver-island films exhibits nonexponential decay and is several orders of magnitude more rapid than on a silica surface, while the total emission intensity is slightly increased. This behavior results from the electromagnetic coupling between the fluorescing molecules and the plasmon resonances of the silver islands ...

Optical and structural characterization of silver islands films on glass substrates

Vacuum, 2009
Metal islands films (MIFs) of Ag on glass substrates were fabricated by the e-beam evaporation process. The dependence of the surface plasmon (SP) absorption wavelength on the deposition mass thickness and substrate temperature was quantified. The structural and optical characterization of the MIFs, done by spectrometry, grazing incidence small angle X-

Optical absorption resonances of dye-coated silver-island films

Optics Letters, 1981
We have used Mie theory to account for the features of the transmission spectra of dye-coated silver-island films. The unusual behavior of the spectra arises from the effect of the dispersion and damping of the optical response of the absorbing coating on the structural resonances of the silver islands. Our modeling indicates that the power dissipation
