Optical absorption resonances of dye-coated silver-island films

Optics Letters, 1981
We have used Mie theory to account for the features of the transmission spectra of dye-coated silver-island films. The unusual behavior of the spectra arises from the effect of the dispersion and damping of the optical response of the absorbing coating on the structural resonances of the silver islands. Our modeling indicates that the power dissipation

Near-Infrared Fluorescence Enhancement Using Silver Island Films

Plasmonics, 2006
Near-infrared (near-IR) excitation produces little background signal from biological molecules, making near- IR fluorescence technology highly useful in proteomic and genomic applications. To increase the emissions of near-IR fluorophores, we examined the use of metal-enhanced fluorescence on these longer wavelength dyes.

Reduced intermolecular energy transfer on silver island films

Chemical Physics Letters, 1988
Abstract Radiationless energy transfer between high quantum efficiency donor and acceptor dye molecules is investigated for different distances between a silver island film and the dye laser by cw fluorescence spectroscopy. We observe reduced donor-acceptor energy transfer efficiency up to island-dye distances of 15 nm due to the enhanced radiative

Singlet Oxygen Phosphorescence Enhancement by Silver Islands Films

The Journal of Physical Chemistry C, 2011
Optical detection of singlet oxygen, a reactive oxygen species that plays a crucial role in a variety of biomedical processes, is hampered by its extremely low emission probability. Using plasmonic effects induced in silver islands films coated with C60, we have been able to enhance the near-IR phosphorescence of singlet oxygen by a factor of ca.

Flexible and optically transparent silver nano-islands film

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2014
We report a cost effective and facile way to synthesize flexible, transparent conductor using oblique angle deposition (OAD). A flexible Ag islands film with transmittance of 28.02 % at 550 nm is obtained with only one step on Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate before stretching.

Tunable surface-plasmon-resonance wavelength of silver island films

Chinese Physics B, 2010
This paper experimentally and theoretically investigates the effect of the underlayer medium on tuning of the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) wavelength of silver island films, and the effect of substrate temperature on the morphologies and optical properties of the films.

Thickness-gradient dependent Raman enhancement in silver island films

Applied Physics Letters, 2009
We show evidence of a dependence of the enhancement of the Raman scattering cross section on the length of the gradient in graded silver island films. A factor-of-three increase in the Raman signal is observed for gradients with length of the order of 0.5 mm when compared to gradients of the order of 9 mm.

Resonance wavelengths of silver–gold compound metal island films

Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 1995
The resonance wavelength of a silver–gold compound metal island (CMI) film can be easily defined by the control of the mixture ratio of silver and gold. We have investigated its mechanism by observing the film microstructure with a scanning electron microscope.

Application of plasmonic silver island films in thin-film silicon solar cells

Journal of Optics, 2012
Silver nanoparticles can be used as light scattering elements for enhancing solar cell energy conversion efficiencies. The objective of our work is to gain more insight into the optical properties of silver nanoparticle films and their effect on the performance of solar cells.

Silver Island Films for Write-Once Optical Storage Media

Optical Data Storage, 1994
Recently many write-once (WO) storage media have been proposed and investigated, including organic dye and tellurium based alloy, etc. A metal island film is one of the potential WO storage media. It is composed of nanometer-size metal particles (i.e., islands) and exhibits a high reflectance and large absorptance due to the resonance of free electrons
