Excitation spectra of surface-enhanced Raman scattering on silver-island films
Optics Letters, 1982Both the spectral dependence and the magnitude of the excitation spectra of surface-enhanced Raman scattering are found to be quantitatively related to the absorption spectra for silver-island films. This relationship is maintained even when the local electromagnetic enhancement at the islands is varied by coating the film with a layer of absorbing dye

Optical and structural characterization of silver islands films on glass substrates
Vacuum, 2009Metal islands films (MIFs) of Ag on glass substrates were fabricated by the e-beam evaporation process. The dependence of the surface plasmon (SP) absorption wavelength on the deposition mass thickness and substrate temperature was quantified. The structural and optical characterization of the MIFs, done by spectrometry, grazing incidence small angle X-

Surface-enhanced second-harmonic generation in C60-coated silver island films
Physics Letters A, 1993Abstract Surface-enhanced generation of the diffuse and depolarized optical harmonic (SH) upon reflection of laser radiation from C60-coated silver island films is observed. An order of magnitude relative enhancement of the SH response from the coated films with respect to the uncoated ones is found. The nature of the observed effects is discussed.

Vacuum deposition of silver island films on chemically modified surfaces
Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 2003The silver island films were vacuum deposited at two different evaporation rates on unmodified indium tin oxide substrates and the substrates modified with molecules containing thiol, pyridyl, and fluorocarbon groups. The films were characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy.

Raman spectroscopy of carbon monoxide adsorbed on silver island films
Surface Science, 1990Abstract CO was adsorbed at 17 K on clean silver island films prepared in UHV. The surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum shows besides the stretch band at ∼ 2112 cm−1 of “chemisorbed” CO an unshifted band at ∼ 2139 cm−1 whose intensity saturates at monolayer coverage. It is assigned to “ physisorbed” CO.

Enhanced absorption of Langmuir-Blodgett monolayers on silver island films
Thin Solid Films, 1989Abstract Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of N,N ′-dioctadecyl rhodamine B (RhB derivative) were deposited on silver island films. The absorption spectra of the composite films were measured. Enhancement of the absorption was detected. The degree of enhancement decreased as the distance between the silver island film surface and the dye monolayers ...

Preparation of silver island films with tunable surface plasmon resonance
SPIE Proceedings, 2012Silver (Ag) island films have been prepared by pulsed laser ablation in vacuum using a XeCl excimer laser. The effects of the number of ablation pulses, the temperature and time of post-annealing on morphology and surface plasmons properties of the prepared Ag island films were investigated by extinction spectra and scanning electron microscopy.

Strong Photoluminescence Enhancement from Colloidal Quantum Dot Near Silver Nano-Island Films
Journal of Fluorescence, 2010We present the fabrication and optical investigation of highly random self-assembled, nano-scale films, probing their influence on the luminescence properties of near surface CdSe/ZnS colloidal quantum dots. When compared to quantum dots distributed on unstructured quartz substrates, the average luminescence intensity is found to be enhanced by a ...

Surface-enhanced optical third-harmonic generation in silver island films
SPIE Proceedings, 2003Surface-enhanced optical third-harmonic generation (THG)is observed in silver island films. The THG intensity from 2-D array of silver nanoparticles is enhanced by two orders of magnitude and the enhancement is attributed to the local field resonance at third-harmonic wavelength mediated by excitation of the local surface lasmons.
