Creep slope estimation for assessing adhesion in the wheel/rail contact

open access: yesIET Intelligent Transport Systems, Volume 18, Issue 10, Page 1931-1942, October 2024.
Real‐time monitoring of wheel‐rail friction coefficient in railway networks are not available and it can mitigate significant operational and maintenance related to low adhesion events. This article presents a friction coefficient estimator based on on‐board sensor measurements from typical rail vehicles during normal running conditions.

The Impact of Wheel Flat on Traction Drive System of Electric Locomotives

open access: yesIET Electrical Systems in Transportation, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Wheel flat can seriously affect the wheel–rail contact performance and cause impact vibrations, which significantly threaten the safe operation of railway vehicles. It is crucial to accurately assess the effects of wheel flats on the wheel–rail contact performance and the vibration impact on the traction drive system.

Damping Coefficient Optimization for the Articulated System of Virtual Track Trains

open access: yesShock and Vibration, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Virtual track trains are a new type of rail transportation because the multisection formation structure leads to more degrees of freedom of the vehicle, which may cause unstable phenomena, such as tailing, cross‐swing, and folding, affecting the stability and ride comfort of the vehicle driving.

Development of a numerical analysis method for estimating wheel-flat shapes in railway vehicles

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
Herein, a method for evaluating the wheel-flat shape generated during braking in railway vehicles is proposed. Prior studies have not clarified the generation mechanism of wheel-flats, preventing a quantitative estimation of their shape.

Analysis of Wheel Wear and Wheel‐Rail Dynamic Characteristics of High‐Speed Trains under Braking Conditions

open access: yesShock and Vibration, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
When high‐speed trains operate under braking conditions, the wheel‐rail interaction increases significantly, which can lead to more serious wear problems. To analyze the evolution of wheel wear and the dynamic characteristics of wheel‐rail under braking conditions, this paper first carries out long‐term monitoring of the service state of wheel‐rail ...

Study on the Impact Coefficient of Tied Arch Bridge Shock Effect Based on Vehicle-Bridge Coupling

open access: yesApplied Sciences
In order to study the impact on the shock effect when a high-speed train passes over a concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) tied-arch bridge, a dynamic load test was carried out in the background of the Qinjiang River Bridge in Qinzhou, Guangxi Province, to

Performance of Real‐Time Hybrid Simulation for Hunting Dampers of High‐Speed Trains

open access: yesStructural Control and Health Monitoring, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
One favorable solution to the issue of hunting instability of high‐speed trains is to install hunting dampers. However, the nonlinearity of dampers and their interaction with a train present significant challenges in accurately analyzing the dynamic behaviors of both dampers and trains.
